It’s a Virtual Console smorgasbord on the eShop this week.

The Virtual Console in Japan continues to deliver some great hits this week across both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. Not only are gamers getting Castlevania III and Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest on the Wii U this week, two more PC Engine (TurboGrafx 16) titles, Gradius and Neutopia, are coming to the service as well. The 3DS isn’t getting left out in the cold, though. Donkey Kong Land 2, called simply Donkey Kong Land here in Japan, released today marking the second title in the Land series to hit the Virtual Console. Naming conventions aside, the Donkey Kong Land games are welcome, solid additions to an already robust library of classic games on the 3DS. Gamers looking for more of a blast from the past can also get their hands on the 3DS remake of Ace Attorney 123 on the eShop as well. Hey Danny,


I was wondering what the motivation behind Japan coverage for the Eshop is. Do a lot of readers own modded Wii Us? Or Japanese Wii Us? I know we have the Famicast, so maybe there's interest there.

Part of me reads these headlines and gets a sad face when I realize it's Japan only. My immediate knee-jerk reaction is usually, "Why does NWR do that to me ???!!! (and IGN, Nintendo Life, WiiUDaily, etc!!)" 





If they can just give me Castlevania 3, I'll stay calm...

I'm not answering for Danny, but I like to see what Japan is getting. Same reason I like looking to see what Europe is getting, even though I'm in North America. It's a sign of games to come possibly for our regions' Virtual Console services.

Plus, it's always fun to curse at Nintendo of America for sleeping on the job with the Virtual Console.  ;D

Seriously, what is Nintendo's problem? I really do want to give them my money in return for GB, GBC and GBA Virtual Console releases on my 3DS. Why won't they let me do that?

NoA still lives like it is the 90's and they are the only source of information about games. We can see what Japan is doing and we want it too.

Well, this is something that I've been doing for about three years now so I figure since I have the spare time and the drive to do it, this is going to keep on going. Trust me, I don't mean it to come across as, "Hey assholes! Look at what I can play and you'll be able to play in like two years!"...Even, though that might be true. I think it's interesting to see the disparity between the eShop in Japan and the West - particularly the Virtual Console. And just to note, in pretty much ALL of the stories that you will ever see that are Japan related from me on this site, I will put JAPAN in the title somewhere!  :D


I really don't know why in the world the West doesn't even see half as many releases as Japan. Sure, sometimes it's licensing (or some obscure ass Japanese title) or some other crap we're fed, but surely there is a better way to get on this. I think I've heard this on RFN, but honestly, if Nintendo worldwide, had a better focus on the Virtual Console service, like what appears to be a more dedicated team than what they have now, maybe some **** would get done. Who knows? M2 did the GBA games on the Wii U VC. Maybe Nintendo is positioning them into taking control of the service (psh, I'm crossing my fingers on this one). Nintendo, get yo **** together in da West for the VC!
