Title: NFRIT Solid 16: F-Zero GX (3) v Excitebots: Trick Racing (7)
Post by: Shaymin on March 25, 2014, 09:19:15 AM
Both overcame indie darlings to make it this far. Both are racing games with a huge twist. Both are RFN Retroactive candidates. Will F-Zero continue its march, or does the plucky underdog have one more massive upset in it?
Excitebots Trick Racing: Excitebots didn't get much pre-release hype – in fact, we only found out it existed six weeks before its North American release. When it did come out, it brought with it insane racing that almost proved as crazy as Mario Kart Wii, and robots on motorcycles playing (children's) card games. Yes, this actually happened. Previous Matchups: Beat World of Goo (R1)
vs
F-Zero GX: Without question the hardest game in the tournament. F-Zero GX's customization, sense of speed and yes, difficulty created a game that is still infinitely replayable, with secrets still being found within the code. Only a true master of the track can say they have taken down every race in the game on the EASIEST difficulty.
Previous Matchups: Beat Mutant Mudds (R1)

The scoring system in Excite- games is brilliant, it's a huge shame noone's ripping it off for their games and making it a more of a standard.

Ha, yeah, I never saw the fishing before either and I played the hell out of that game. It is indeed a shame it affected nothing in the genre, it's like people walking past gems laying on the sidewalk.

I vaguely remember doing fishing once, maybe...
As to scoring system -- i've heard Project Gotham Racing series had something like this with kudos, but aside from that i know nothing about it.
