Title: NFRIT 1st Round: Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon (3) v 999 (6)

The nominations have been made, and now it's time for you to decide the most underrated game in the 15 year history of Nintendo World Report! Votes will be open for 3 days, so cast your vote and make your voice heard in the comments.

In the Alistel region, it's #3 seed Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon v #6 seed 999.

Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon: The Year of Luigi may not have gone well for Nintendo, but it certainly started out with a bang. Next Level's interpretation of the Gamecube classic brought the game to portables without missing a beat, and finally let the man in green step out of his brother's shadow.

vs

Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (999): Perhaps the first action visual novel to hit big outside of Japan, 999 tells a thrilling, mesmerizing story through incredibly well-localized dialogue and puzzles that use every aspect of the DS system. In many ways, 999's ending may show why it is indeed the ultimate example of a DS game.

The recent release of the 999 novel convinced me to vote Dark Moon.

Honestly, while the story is fantastically twisted in 999 the gameplay is nothing special and having to replay from the start each time to see different endings is rather annoying.  Getting a graphic novelization would very likely be the superior way to experience the story in my mind. (The sequel to 999 made a few small changes that made gameplay much more appealing, although the story wasn't quite as twisted.)

I didn't think that having to go back and replay from the start was a big deal, once you had the puzzles figured out, going through a second time didn't take that long.  The story was so good, the atmosphere was brilliantly done, and I was more drawn into the game than any other game I've played in the past 10 years.  I can definitely see how it's not for everyone, but for people who enjoy this style of game, 999 and Hotel Dusk alone made owning a DS worthwhile.

Never played the other, but Luigi's Mansion 2 was pretty good.

Oooo. This is a tough call. I'm going with Luigi's Mansion though.

Once again, the people have spoken. I'm like 8 for 8. Can I keep the streak alive?
