Title: Iron Fall, pushing the tech limits of the 3DS
Post by: ShyGuy on November 03, 2013, 08:21:32 PM
I'm not much of a graphics whore when it comes to games, but I do find it interesting to see what technical achievements developer can do, especially on "limited" hardware.
Enter Ironfall. admittedly it looks kind of generic, like a rip off of Gears of War meets Red Faction, but we rarely see this kind of game on the 3DS. Also the 60fps is impressive. Also the dual screen rendering. Also the destructible environments.

Hopefully they will have a gameplay too to back up their technical proficiency.
Even if the game won't be super exciting, at least there might be a possibility someone else might buy their engine and do something with it.

Looks like Shadowgun (Android/iOS).

Nice engine, but I think RE:R still looks better overall.

Cool news... but I'm one of the people who thinks that good game design almost always trumps technology. Still interested to see how this turns out though, and whether the tech gets licensed for use elsewhere.
(In my limited experience, when dev teams talk about pushing technology more than creating a fun experience it's usually a warning flag that the game isn't one I'm interested in playing. Keeping my fingers crossed that won't be the case here.)

Ejamer, are you talking about High Voltage Software and The Conduit when you say that? Because that is the first studio that comes to mind for me.

Not thinking of them exclusively... but I can see some parallels in how The Conduit and Iron Fall are being shown so far.

Technically interesting, but the generic art direction detrimental to the presentation. They also didn't show off things like dynamic lighting or large particle numbers. I am guessing this engine has a really poor AI.

Agreed that the visuals are nice, but whoever put that video together... wow, that was dull. The final game might be super exciting, but I doubt I'll ever know; this tech demo basically killed my interest.
