Title: Batman: Arkham Origins: Batman doesn't play (online) well with others.
Post by: ShyGuy on October 25, 2013, 08:24:53 PM
Picked this up at Best Buy today, came with the Deathstoke Challenge Pack code.

Played the intro mission. Impressions so far:

- The combat is very similar but seems faster
- The lighting is nice
- Textures hold up well, even zoomed in.
- No collectibles so far
- Batman's voice is decent
- Alfred seems to be wearing a cheap toupee.

Damn, I want this game so bad but I'm also dieing to get Ass Creed next week.  Being broke isn't helping the issue either.  I'm thinking of trading in my copy of GTA V next week for one of these 2 games.  I'm currently leaning towards Ass Creed but this game def is on deck for my next purchase followed up by Dues Ex.

I really do wonder how the WiiU version of Batman runs compared to the other consoles.  I'm hoping they put some decent effort into this release and used the newer architecture of the WiiU and larger memory for some improvements, even if its just a higher res or faster fps.

This is the time period when the Wii U has to prove itself to the industry. Hopefully these games sell well enough to justify more support. The concept of playing quality games on the Gamepad are something that I want to see better utilized in the future of the of the Wii U.

How's framerate? Arkham City on WiiU ran like 19th century flicking cinema at times.

^ And i'd like to know the same about Ass 4, i really hope they improved grafix on this one too. Thanks in advance.

Well the little feedback I've seen at Neogaf is that the WiiU version is running smooth, looks good, and is not having as many of the bugs that are plaguing the other 2 versions.  I've read some issues already with the released patch for PS3 where people are having to delete in patch to get it run smoothly again.

As for Ass Creed 4, the developers have stated that the WiiU release will fall between the current gen and next gen versions.  Now, what that means is anyone's guess.  I'm hoping for at least some of the features from the next gen version being implemented to a lesser degree on WiiU but I have a feeling all we are going to get is the Need for Speed treatment of higher res and steady framerate.  That's all good but I think the WiiU can do better than that IMO.

Interestingly enough, My cousin picked up the PS3 version of Arkham Origins tonight and I checked that out as well. It looks similar, almost identical. I'm not a great judge of framerate, so I can't comment on that.

- The shadows on the Wii U version seem slightly better than the PS3 shadows. Not a big deal, You have to scrutinize to see a difference.
- The textures also seems a smidge better on the Wii U.
- The PS3 version had something called WBID? Is this like Warner Brothers version of UPlay?

Also, interestingly enough, the Wii U version has achievements. You can choose to post to Miiverse each time you get one.

The Bat cave is pretty cool.

As developers become more familar with the system then Wii U versions of games will look better than those on the PS360. The big question will be how they look compared to the PS4 and XBone. What I would like to see is the Wii U become the lead development platform and developers simply those games to the PS4 and Xbone.

I'd be completely okay even with that.

Thanks for for all your Batman impressions -- port seems alright.

And all the fanboys can stop wailing and gnashing their teeth now, because the new Batman sounds almost identical to Kevin Conroy.

This is on the list of good 3rd party games I'm planning to buy for Wii U next year. I'm glad to hear it turned out good. I wonder if the hardware similarity between the PS360 and Wii U make it easier for these ports to come out playing nicer.

After watching Giant Bomb quick look i think i now understand why that tacked on multiplayer is skipping Wii U.

That multiplayer mode is riddled with items you need to buy with real money.

Thanks so much for your support of Batman: Arkham Origins on Wii U.

We are contacting you today because you purchased the Batman: Arkham Origins Season Pass for Wii U. We hope you’ve been enjoying the content that has been delivered thus far. Based on demand for Downloadable Content on the system, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has made the decision to remove its offering of the upcoming new story campaign for Wii U. As a result, we will be crediting the entire $19.99+tax cost of the Season Pass back to your Nintendo eShop account. You will still be able to enjoy the content already released thus far.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your support of the game.

Sincerely,
Nintendo of America Inc.

so check you eShop account if you bought the season pass. you just got FREE DLC!!!
that Gamers Discount is in effect already!! That was quick Nintendo.

Does this mean you get the DLC for free?

Well that's irritating. I actually bought the last Arkham Origins DLC pack, and it was... not all I hoped.

If you bought the Season Pass, then yes, yes it does.
Well, all that has already been released that is.

But this does not raise my hopes for Watch Dogs in the slightest...

Costumes and the initiation combat arena map back with a light story. Not the greatest DLC in the world, but most DLC sucks so...

I am feeling how Dreamcast owners must have felt when their system was dead.

And I was actually planning on buying the now canceled DLC because it sounded like the most substantive of the DLC available. Haven't even opened the game yet but I was looking forward to it.

Is it just because of poor sales or perhaps Nintendo gamers are more frugal and less of a 'tool' that feeds the DCL charging empire.

I think it might be the fact that Sony and Microsoft's online structure and accounts cause more people to stick with those systems and buy that content on them since it is more unified and they are already paying for online services there. That doesn't give them much incentive to buy it from Nintendo especially when they bork support for it in the first place without having the online multiplayer.

The problem is a problem of third party sales.  Other systems have all third party games and complete series.  So most people will continue to buy third party games for those systems.

Wii U sales of Batman Origins are much less than the other versions.  As such, even if DLC demand is the same(% wise), Wii U will have much less DLC demand.  I think that is the main driver.  Although not putting a Hard Drive in the Wii U is another reason that people may avoid games with DLC on the Wii U.

All I'm saying is if your are going to put a game on the Wii U, at least have the common sense to do a full job of things. Otherwise you are just wasting everybody's time.
