Title: Wii Party U Will Not Be Sold Through the eShop
Post by: Pandareus on October 23, 2013, 09:08:51 PM

North Americans, and possibly Europeans, will need to go to retail stores to get their parties started.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35793

Wii Party U will not be available on the Wii U eShop when it releases on October 25, as confirmed by a Nintendo of Canada representative. The $50 retail bundle, which includes a Wii Remote Plus, will be the only way to get the game, at least for the forseeable future.

While the representative we spoke with could not confirm this, this likely extends beyond the Canadian borders since the only "Intend to Buy" Club Nintendo survey for the North American version was for the retail copy. The game was also absent from the regular Nintendo of Europe eShop press release this week.

Well if Nintendo isn't gonna support the eShop, why should we?

Dear Nintendo:

I have 9 Wii Remotes.
I don't need another.

Thank you.

Ugh. I don't want to buy yet another wiimote.

I' hope they will release cheaper standalone game without additional plastic stuff (though that gamepad stand looks nice).

New strategy: Retail only for first six-nine months. Then price drop and release on eShop to tempt people to double dip. ;)

I guess Nintendo either couldn't figure out a price point or just decided that making it cheaper on the eShop was unfair to retailers.

They could have released a controller-less version at retail and priced it exactly the same as the eshop version. Put a disclaimer on the eshop before purchase that a Wii remote plus is required for play.

easy problem to solve. This one was on me Nintendo.

They may "say" it won't be available on the eShop, but I have a feeling what this really means is that it merely won't be available to the general public on the eShop. Keep in mind, Wii Play Motion was intitially the same say-- it was only available at retail bundled with the Wii Remote Plus, but if you had previously had Wii Sports Resort registered through Club Nintendo, you were given the special option of being able to order the cheaper stand-alone copy (obviously, full Wii games weren't available via download). I'm guessing they'll likely be doing the same thing again, and since it's cheaper for them not to have to produce physical copies if they don't have to, a special download code will be offered instead.

ShyGuy don't give them any ideas. I'm already going to double dip with Nintnedo Land next week when the eShop price drops to $30

[/size]Yeah. Nintendo's only put every other one of their games on the eShop but this one, so they're definitely not supporting it.

This seems like a temporary situation. Still sucks, though.

The whole "include a wii remote" strategy for Wii Play must be influencing this decision.  Knowing that Wii Motion Plus remotes cost $35, Nintendo's probably placing the price of the game alone on the e-shop for less than $30, given their reluctance to devalue their software.

That being said, whenever I see a controller bundled-in with a game (especially a new one), I instinctively wonder what's wrong with the game that they feel the need to add value to it, even if that's possibly a wrong way to look at it.

So after reading that the game is apparently available for download on australian eShop, i changed my county in settings and created new mii character for this.

Welp, it's true. Wii Party U is indeed available on Australilan eShop.

For 89.9 Australian dollars.

I'm not even gonna bother doing conversion.
