Title: New Powers, World Map Unveiled for Super Mario 3D World

New powers, and the newly designed world map for Super Mario 3D World were revealed during this morning's Nintendo Direct presentation.

Several new power ups were shown in the video presentation. A new cherry item can be picked up to duplicate your character. Instead of now controlling one Mario, you can control 2, 3, 4, or more. Mario also hopped into a shoe which glided across the ice during the presentation. Mario utilized other objects in the game such as a baseball and a missile launcher.

A new world map was also shown that abandons the recent 2D level screen. Instead of simply walking across a preset line, Mario can wonder around the world map and select any of the available levels. 

Super Mario 3D World is set to release in North America on November 22.

This new trailer really got me hyped  :)
Graphics look allot more polished and pretty too

This game looks so good.  They showed so many new power-ups.  I haven't been this excited for a game in a while!

It's a pity Nintendo's milked the Mario franchise so much over the past few years (subsequently draining any interest I've had in it), because this morning's trailer was good. As Emily Rogers put it on Twitter this morning, you could see actual personality in the game now. Unfortunately, it's a Mario game and I'm just burned out on that entire franchise + spinoffs, so as good as the trailer is, it's just more Mario to me and I can do without that.

This looks like solid candidate for this year's 2nd best game. Can't wait to play this game alone and in drunk company.

I have to say that this game was probably the one I had the lowest interest in from E3. I mean, I know it's Mario, so you know it will still be quality but I just didn't feel any enthusiasm towards it. Today's impressions and trailer has completely changed that and this game just shot up my Wii U want list so good job Nintendo.

Once again the final version of the game looks much better then the first reveal.  You think people would have learned this about Nintendo games by now, but ever year its the same ****.  Game is revealed, it's all Baw it looks terrible, how dare Nintendo make this game but then when the final version is revealed, OMG that looks amazing, day one purchase.

Seriously, the original E3 reveal for Nintendo games is always based on an unfinished version with worse graphics and they pick the simplest most basics stages so it's playable for everyone on the show floor.  The good graphics and more advanced gameplay is always waited until the end.

I'm starting to think my mother was right and videogames really do rot your brain since many gamers on the internet literally have the memory of goldfish when it comes to Nintendo games.

I've missed every 3DS and Wii U Mario and I find that I don't care.  Missing out on those games doesn't bother me in the least since Mario is so overexposed.

This looks improved but this is still the sort of game I would buy if I owned a Wii U but I wouldn't buy a Wii U for.  If I want Mario platformers I don't need a Wii U.

I thought 3D World looked fine at E3. In fact, I recall saying that some of it might look too detailed for Mario's cartoony world.

In any case, I was sold as soon as Nintendo let me play as Peach. Now, she can use the Fire Flower. ****, that's just a bonus.

They actually showed Peach in her Fire Flower outfit back then on E3. She, like all other playable characters also has baby variant that works as small Mario.

I meant Peach can use the Fire Flower in Super Mario 3D Land whereas she didn't in Super Mario Bros. 2. That's a bonus on top of having Peach playable with her floaty jump which I would have been fine with just that. It's like this game is made out of my hopes and dreams.

Sometimes. But X was shown at E3 and is further back in development and yet it was the most praised title shown at E3. Same goes with Mario Kart 8. I thought it looked great and showed off what new concept they were bringing to the series, even if probably doesn't add much like hang gliders in Mario Kart 7.

Then there are games that can look great and be disappointments when released. Some games stay the same from when you first see to their release, like Kirby Epic Yarn or Donkey Kong Country Returns. I don't think there were any major reveals or changes in opinion as those games went from E3 to release.

I think the biggest thing that kept me from feeling that interested in the game was that I had played 3D Land. What I mean by that is, although I thought it was a pleasant enough game, nothing about it screamed, if only this could have been on a console. It is a really great handheld game. Having that as the only point of reference and then comparing it to other 3D Mario games like Sunshine or Galaxy, my only point of reference is/was a handheld title. The E3 reveal didn't really give me an indication that it had expanded the scope of the (I guess 3D series) that much more. However, this latest video and impressions have now done that and shown that this game is greatly expanding on the ideas of the first 3D Land game and it is definitely a console worthy title.

This is one of the few times where Nintendo has taken a handheld title and then made it into a console entry. I guess it shows the expectations people have or at least I have. Personally, I think that may be a factor as to why this game caused such a reaction at first reveal.

Khushrenada nailed it. Not that I hated the E3 trailer or anything, I liked it, but it didn't seem like it was made for a console, aside from the multiplayer. Of course, I also acknowledged that it was an unfinished game, and that they didn't show very much of it, and so I didn't make any final judgments back then. I don't think most people did either, just responded to what we did see, which is all we can really talk about at a time like that. So I don't really see it as a change of opinion, because I still hold that opinion of what was shown back then. It's more of an unfinished opinion, which makes sense as it was an unfinished game, and now both the game and opinion have improved. Hooray!
