Title: Is there something wrong with the new server??

I was just wondering if there are some technical difficulties with the new server. Ever since the downtime, pgc has been running VERY slow for me. It takes over a minute to load the main page. I have a cable connection, and have noticed no other slowdown from other sites, so I assume there is a problem on your end. Is anyone else getting this problem? BTW I love your site, great content, but in the end I guess it all comes down to you get what you pay for...............

Post by: Pale on June 11, 2003, 12:07:08 PM: Yeah, connection to PGC has been the pits for me too. I get "page cannot be displayed" about every other attempted load and have to hit refresh and wait again.

I don't even know why I am hanging around the message board, as half the time it doesn't post what I want, and it takes me 5 minutes to navigate from board to board.

This just sucks, any way you want to look at it. I just hope the staff can go back to the old server while they still have readers....

Post by: mouse_clicker on June 11, 2003, 05:48:22 PM: I've had the same problem- it takes forever to load the site, even on my DSL connection, and even longer to load the forums and their individual pages. I'm guessing they're just working out the kinks of their new server.

Post by: Jonnyboy117 on June 11, 2003, 06:45:20 PM: It has nothing to do with the new server. The server move had a few kinks, but those were worked out quickly, and the new server is actually a good bit more powerful than the old one.

I can't go into any details about what problems the site is having right now, but please rest assured that we are aware of the problems (including slowness and instability) and are working very hard on them. Please be patient with the site until things get back to normal...we will try to make sure our content keeps you from relying on other sites! ;-) At the same time, it is summer, and things are very slow in the industry, so don't expect anything like the pre-E3 madness we had.

It seems that I can finally end my search for another Nintendo news site. Most of the ones I checked out were crap anyways.

Post by: Grey Ninja on June 15, 2003, 01:03:47 PM: DOS = Denial of Service Attack. Given that I am a fairly peaceful computer geek, I am not really up on the whole cyber-attack thing. I don't know much about it other than that as I can never be bothered to find out. Most of my computer interests remain offline.

Post by: Uglydot on June 16, 2003, 03:47:06 PM: Anyone wonder where the mods went? DoS attacks are one of those things some kiddy in IRC threatens with. Not usually a worry You jam a connection with more information that it can handle and stuff crashes. At LANs my friends and I have had various wars with stuff like this.
