Title: Cube ONLINE!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: WazMeister on June 11, 2003, 05:27:10 AM
Hi all!
I am buying a cube very soon, I finally love em.
Tbh the long storie goes I did have one I was one of the first to own one in Europe I won a competition with the Mirror news paper which the storie its self is even funnier, but after i got it I sold it within a few months and did not play it once. yea a waste and I regret so much its undenible.
Anyway I getting another one and all this internet larky sounds awesome but i am confused a bit and the offical nintendo site dont explain well.
With the Cube Broadband do I just buy the adaptor plug it in and start playing online games and trading stuff over games like animal crossing?
Or do I need to pay for a monthly/yearly connection fee?
You see I am used to Xbox Live where we had to buy it and u basicly get 1 year play and after that u gotta pay monthly..
Can someone give me some details please.
p.s will a adaptor bought in Uk work on a US machine? and will us games on a us machine in UK play online still?
Kind regards.
Waz

GameCube isn't really online...
I mean there's only one game playable online and that's Phantasy Star Online ver 1&2. And you gotta pay a fee just for that one game.

Well, GC online by itself doesn't cost money. N doesn't plan on charging for online gaming. Sega decided to demand money for online gaming with PSO.

Nintendo haven't even announced they will go online. For all we know, they may not even go online on GameCube and leave it to the next console.
I hope we see online by the time Mario Kart is released. I would have said F-Zero GX, but it seems too late...

Apparently I read some where that Nintendo and Gamespy might be teaming up to create an online service that will be free for everyone. That my friends is whats keeping Nintendo out of the online biz, they want people to only have to pay for the game and nothing more, and right now doing that really isn't profitable. If it is true I'm sure we'll see something within the year.

i really like how Nintendo plan on NOT charging us for online play. that alone will get people to buy Gamecube and/or GC2.

I'd be suprised to see much internet gaming from Nintendo, though wasn't AC2 supposed to be online? I am glad Nintendo seems adamant on making you only pay for the game, since I can't afford to pat to play, even though it is worth the cost.

Though we don't know how the setup will be. They gotta pay for servers, domains, ect. They might go with an ad when you log onto the server (a "splash screen") while you connect. Heck, for online A.C. I'd put up with billboards in my A.C. town. The big N's probably has had it figured out for months now, and will shock the gaming word with it. (like they always do!)
