Hey there kids, do you like candy? Well I've got some candy right here for you... ear candy, in podcast form for your enjoyment.

In our first delicious segment, Patrick sits down with Daan, who just finished Pikmin 3. You'll get the lowdown on Miyamoto's latest garden strategy simulator.

Secondly, Alex and Dave break down the New Super Mario Bros. series in detail. What's the best game in the series? Has it gotten stale? Will there ever be good music?

And finally, Neal, Scott, and Andy discuss gaming with kids. It's something us older folks find fascinating, probably because we're old.

The kids segment was a pretty fun listen.
 
I think that kids having trouble with challenge in games such as Mario probably hasn't really changed that much. It may be more apparent because parents nowadays grew up playing the games, so they can more easily gauge a kids success or aptitude for the game.
 
It also depends heavily on the kids own determination, a lot of kids I used to play with could easily bang their virtual heads against levels over and over again and still have fun, I was like that too. My sister on the other hand used to get very aggrevated whenever she got stuck breifly or when she kept dying, giving up soon after.
 
I think if you want a kid to get better at games, leaving them alone after some general explanation would probably be a good way to go. A lot of us 80's and 90's kids didn't have a lot of help from mum and dad and were able to pick up the games at a fairly young age, they were also not as user friendly back then either.

If you want game reviews targeted towards parents you might want to check out WiiViewr (http://www.youtube.com/user/wiiviewr). He often lets his sons do the review with him. Of course, as you can tell from the name he only talks about Wii and Wii U games.

I can attest to the quality of WiiViewr. I sort of stopped when he started letting his children take active part in it because I dont enjoy hearing them ramble off, but he has always done great work.

I'm currently playing through Lego Batman 2 with my 4 year old daughter as well as NSMBU.  On one save, we beat the game playing 2 players (I carried her through most of the game). On another save slot, she plays by herself and I help with Boost mode (which is super slick for something like this).  She loves the game and wants to play everyday and is getting better at it all the time ( she cleared the first few levels up to the fortress by herself with no boost mode help from me!)


The WiiU is the most versatile console for family's allowing me not only to play with my kid in a unique way in some games (like NSMBU), but also introduce her to a bunch of classics that I grew up on (like Kirbys adventure, which she loves).  For the lone gamer, WiiU may not be enough, but for a family man like me it's awesome!

Just wanted to post that I really enjoyed the gaming with kids section. As a young father of two, my gaming has been undeniably impacted by the change in time/priority that a family brings. But seeing my 3 year old start gaming, playing games together on Wii and NES and 3DS, has been a real joy!
