Post by: NWR_Josh on July 12, 2013, 08:43:08 AM

Olimar returns for another round.

Captain Olimar and his trusty Pikmin will return in the next incarnation of Super Smash Bros.

This news comes directly from the official Super Smash Bros. site. In the pictures released with his reveal, Olimar appears to use red, yellow, blue, white and purple Pikmin. There is no mention of any other types of Pikmin, but his character page does suggest players check out Pikmin 3.

It's also worth noting that like the Wii Fit Trainer and Animal Crossing Villager, no pictures have been currently shown of Olimar in the 3DS version of the game.

I wonder why they're going with Olimar in lieu of one of those new Pikmin 3 fellers.

He's iconic to the series.

I'm going to now anticipate the release of Tropical Freeze, Dream Team, Lost World, X & Y and 3D World.

I didn't think Olimar would be cut, especially with Pikmin 3 out soon.

Don't forget New Yoshi's Island, Wind Waker HD, and Zelda: Link Between Worlds.  Since Dream Team is released on July 18th next week in Japan, the wait won't be that long to see if they'll do this with every major Nintendo release.  Of course if Luigi is an unlockable character, I could see them not doing one for him.

Either way we should find out Wednesday night, or maybe even Tuesday night depending on if Sakurai wants to do it the day before or exact day of.

Odd... Considering that he isn't in it, I would have thought it far more logical to suspect Pikmin 3's release would hurt Olimar's chances to return (in lieu of one of the new characters). But it's nice to see that won't be the case.

Actually, Olimar IS in Pikmin 3, that was confirmed months ago. He is just not one of the 3 main characters you start with.

Most of the characters w/ unique play styles are not great fighters but, they are crucial to Smash to keep the feel.
