Title: Nintendo Will Release a Free-to-Play Game Before March 2014

Broke gamers, this one is for you!

Nintendo is looking to release a free-to-play game within the fiscal year, as stated in Tweets from David Gibson during a recent analyst meeting. Nintendo stated that the game wouldn't be set in the Pokémon or Mario universes, since those franchises were already established. The fiscal year they refer to ends March 2014.

The term free-to-play, sometimes abbreviated as F2P, means that the game itself can be purchased/downloaded at no cost, and that it can theoretically be played without ever paying anything. However, in this business model, the developers usually make money when players pay real money to purchase in-game items, expansions, or features that enhance their playing experience.

While little is known about Nintendo's free-to-play plans, NintendoWorldReport will be there to report it when Nintendo unveils their plan for the different style of gameplay it envisions.

I'm glad it isn't Mario Kart!

Maybe it'll be WarioWare: MicroTransactionGames

I see Free To Play as a scam and I'm disappointed that Nintendo is having anything to do with it.

My worst case scenario is a future where every single game micro-charges you to death and there is nothing left for someone like myself who doesn't want to pay to win.  The world is full of idiots and if videogame companies can trick them into paying $100 in tiny fees for the same game that would normally cost $60 they will do it.  In fact my biggest fears in life typically relate to the general public tolerating or embracing something horrible and me being powerless to stop it.  Typically this fear is more related to big picture stuff but it comes into play with unessential fun stuff like videogames as well.

Free to play ain't so bad; I was able to play through a lot of TERA and other online games without spending any cash.

I can't imagine what Nintendo will do for their first jump in to the free-to-play space. It won't be a Mario or Pokemon title, so is it a different Nintendo series? Or is it a new world and characters? Ah, the mystery!

EDIT: Ah, what if it's Dragon Quest X? Probably not since Nintendo has been Japan-centric and Square Enix is in no rush to switch the pay model of Dragon Quest X.

I'm not exactly sure this will get people excited about your new console.  Perhaps a new IP?
