Title: Wii U Question

I just had a question about my Wii U menu screen.
When I close out of a game, and return to the menu screen. It says "Please Wait" than at the bottom left of the gamepad, it displays a hard drive, with USB written on it, with a loading circle next to it. I was simply wondering what this means.
I do not have a external hard drive hooked up to my console, but I have tried... It was one that relied on the power of the system, thus caused freezing issues, and did not work. If anyone could please explain what this icon is, it would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

They added that with the last major update. I think it's just like the hourglass in Windows. It means the system is thinking.
