Climb every mountain.

Ice Climber is an early NES game, and it shows. It’s a simple mechanic, repeated over and over again, with a bare bones presentation. And yet I can’t stop playing it. Maybe it’s just my love of arcade-style gaming, but the simple act of breaking through layers of ice to climb to the top of a mountain keeps me hooked for all 32 mountains available.

Because of how archaic this game is, though, I can’t in good conscience recommend it to most people. If you buy this game, you need to have a high tolerance for primitive game design. The collision detection doesn’t always work the way it seems like it should, and that can cause what feel like cheap deaths at times. But if you can stomach the antiquated design, this is an underrated game from the early NES days that’s worth playing.

Ice Climbers seems like the perfect game for a Digital-only download remake.

It really is. It's a simple, fun arcade concept with room to be fleshed out

I think even a 6/10 score is generous, the game quickly gets tiresome after about 10 mins. The controls just kill the game. Maybe re-making it as a $5 3DS eShop game could make it good. As for the VC version, I would not recommend it at all.
