With two games with the word "Super" in the title, this must be a great month.

Club Nintendo's April game rewards are Super Mario 64, Super Metroid, Kirby's Pinball Land, and 3D Classics: Urban Champion.

Super Mario 64, originally released on the Nintendo 64, is the beloved 3D platformer that arguably perfected the genre in the first go-around. Control Mario as he journeys through multiple destinations all in one castle to save the Princess. For 200 coins, you can play the 1996 sensation on your Wii or Wii U in Wii Mode.

Super Metroid follows the journey of Samus Aran on an intergalactic adventure filled with lots of weapons upgrades and a great soundtrack. This SNES title can be yours for 150 coins. This game is playable on both the Wii and the Wii U's Wii Mode.

Kirby's Pinball Land, the 3DS VC release, has Kirby playing the role of a pinball. There are three different tables to play on plus a secret bonus games. Don't disappoint the pink puff and grab this title for 150 coins.

3D Classics: Urban Champion, on the 3DS, lets you play the game Urban Champion in 3D. That's really it. It's Urban Champion. Pick this one up for 150 coins.

All four games will be available until May 5.

I plan on getting Kirby's Pinball Land I loved that game on the GameBoy.
I won't get Super Metroid cause in a little over a month I'll buy it on the Wii U for 30 cents

Exactly. I won't bemoan Nintendo offering it as a Club Nintendo reward, but I don't really understand the timing. I suppose Wii owners may dig it though I wonder if they even care at this point. I think next month's Wii U offer includes off-screen play. Yes, more of that please. Thanks.

It's pretty sad when I'm contemplating picking up 3D Classics Urban Champion just because I have a ton of coins on Club Nintendo and nothing worth spending them on.  :-\

I still find it difficult to believe that they're going to be selling Super Metroid for 30 cents. That's got to be the best deal since...well, since Metroid Prime Trilogy.

If Super Mario 64 were 150 coins, I might be tempted to grab it. So maybe it's a good thing that it's 200, because I don't need another version of this game.

Mario 64/Super Metroid and Urban Champion in the same month... I'm pretty sure they'll change the picture for karma in a dictionary to that set of downloads.

And if you're curious about Urban Champion 3D, I've talked about it on NFR before. It's... not actively offensive, unlike its 2D counterpart.

I've heard that version is actually decent

You heard wrong. The graphical upgrade does nothing for the game play.

What's that saying about polishing a... 

Well, let's just say that even though the dev team did a great job and clearly created the best version of Urban Champion available, it's still not a game that most people will care to play.

But hey, if you are getting it through Club Nintendo then maybe you can justify the download as being "free". All you are losing is the opportunity to get some other prize at a later date. I still wouldn't download the game though.

I bought Urban Champion 3D one of the other times it was available on Club Nintendo just to complete my 3D Classics collection. I'm pretty sure I've never opened the game.

I don't think anyone is under any illusions about the quality of Urban Champion. My understanding was that Urban Champion only received the 3D Classics treatment because of the cache of nostalgia it still has in Japan (that, and the fact that relatively speaking it was probably quite easy to update given how little there is to the game). Nostalgia is a pretty crucial component when it comes to these updates and whether or not we find them worthwhile. I thought Kid Icarus, with it's new backgrounds, and Excitebike, with it's ear piercing music, were great updates, but then again I already had a certain amount of affection for both those games.
 
I just hope that Nintendo eventually make a Metroid 3D Classic. Although I did enjoy Kid Icarus (NES), I actually never got very far in the game. It was only with the 3D Classics version that I was able to make any significant progress, and I really enjoyed it. So my hope has always been that '3D Classics' would give me the opportunity to potentially enjoy some of the classic games that, while much lauded, feel archaic to me. Kid Icarus was definitely one of those games, and (I'm sorry to say) the original Metroid is another.

My hope would be that if Nintendo ever did decide to update Metroid for the 3DS, they would make a few slight refinements and alterations much like they did with Kid Icarus. New backgrounds for instance would do a great deal to help me differentiate between areas. Perhaps some health stations could also be added, so that I don't have to farm enemies. Simple things like that would go a long way towards making that game more enjoyable for me, without detracting from what people enjoy about it; and who knows? Perhaps I might actually finish it for once.

I started watching Chrontendo series (http://archive.org/search.php?query=subject%3A%22chrontendo%22) where a dude plays every single famicom release in chronological order and lots of 3d Classics releases make much more sense to me.

Urban Champion was like third famicom release and Excitebike also came very early so i guess Nintendo went with chronology here (not counting obvious event things like Kirby or Kid Icarus that were attached to other games).

I love Chrontendo. I used to watch that all the time. It was really interesting to me to learn a little something about all these obscure Japanese games that I never knew existed. I haven't watched it in years though. Did he ever finish his mission?
 
The other thing about that show was that the guy had a really comforting voice. I can't tell you how many times I fell asleep listening to him whispering in my ear...ah...that's not what it sounds like.
