Title: European Release of Devil Survivor Overclocked Affected by Game-Breaking Bugs

The developer has confirmed several problems and is working on a patch.

The European version of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked is said to contain a number of serious game-breaking bugs.

The problems were confirmed by developer Ghostlight on their official blog, after several reports from players who had encountered these bugs cropped up following the game's European launch on March 29. According to the studio, the game will crash if the player summons a demon during battle or if certain events occur in the game's Auction House, both of which could potentially prevent the completion of the game.

Ghostlight later stated that they had contacted Nintendo and the game's original publisher, Atlus, and that they were working hard to fix these issues. The team is hoping that a patch will arrive in the near future, although no definite date has been provided at this time.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked is a 3DS port of a Nintendo DS RPG first released in 2009. The European release, which comes nearly two years after the Japanese and North American launches, was the first time Devil Survivor had been released in any incarnation in the region.

What a way to introduce a series to a new audience.

But the games are so different from one another one game really isn't a testament of the quality of the other games. For example, I think the Sin Megami Tensi series is a piece of crap, but I love the spin off series Persona.

This reminds me of the Super Paper Mario debacle, where the European release, several months after the other regions, somehow managed to pick up crippling bugs that weren't in the other versions of the game in the process of being localised.

Hopefully, the patch comes along soon - I feel sorry for the people who put down £20-30 on this game last week, only to have their progress halted by such a ridiculous glitch.

The broader audience probably won't appreciate that they're standalone titles though. They'll probably just associate the name with 'game-breaking bugs'. However, I guess if someone has the inclination to buy a Shin Megami Tensei game then they're probably informed enough to know the difference. Either way, this sort of thing makes for a bad first impression.

So it comes 2 YEARS after the North American release AND has multiple game breaking bugs? Wow, this says a lot about Ghostlight (and not in a good way). And its not like this is their first Shin Megami Tensei game (its their 6th, plus two stand-alone Persona games).
