You mean like on the NES?  Mario DX on the gameboy color, and their coming out with Donkey Kong country on the Advance.

A Super Mario game is already out. Yes, it doesn't look like the other Mario games, but Sunshine is still the newest in the "Super Mario" line of platformers.

As for Donkey Kong, EAD is working on the next Donkey Kong game, so don't worry. All I know is that it's a platformer, but I don't know if it will be like the original DK or like Donkey Kong Country. My educated guess says it will be a DKC game (maybe 3D movement like DK64, maybe 2D movement like SNES games, who knows?). Miyamoto did say it will be "3D meets 2D", so I'm hoping it will actually be Donkey Kong Country 4...
And since the original DKC games were my favorite platforms and had about 100 levels each...This could be Kongasm! Imagine...200 or more 3D rendered levels of smoothly animated DKC gameplay, with new moves (I hope you can punch this time like in DK64) and animals and stuff! *Gamefreak goes giddy with anticipation*

I'm also hearing two rumors about DK Racing. 1. Rare is converting it to a racing game based on their Saberman or whatever series, and 2. EAD has taken over development.

I need this game.  The DKC games were *excellent* (some of Rare's best work) and I'd love a new version with the same fast-paced, atmospheric gameplay... I just hope they can have music somewhere near as brilliant as the originals.  *suddenly has urge to  listen to Bramble Scramble or the haunted woods music from DKC2*

I wouldn't be hoping for a game like Rare does it. It will have more of Nintendo's presence in it.

If you're looking for a Super Mario on the GCN as of now, get Sunshine, although some people do not like it mainly because of its difficulty.  As for the Super Mario game of GCN, it'll probably be Super Mario 128, which has not come out.

i recall that  somewhere there is a 3d donkey kong  being made that is based of the original arcade version.

that could be  very interesting if done right.

even if it is only a mini game  or bonus game inside a new DKC game.

Yes, there was that Donkey Kong plus that was shown off at E3 2002, I belive. It was supposed to have GBA connection and a level builder. I was quite interested in it. It was only 2d though, so i don't know if your thinking of a different game StRaNgE.

Yeah, Rare is using the engine for their racing game.  I just hope Nintendo didn't drop this project, it looked interesting from the first trailer released.

donkey kong for gc seems to be successor to the donkey kong country games on the snes- which are great
there have been lots of rumors lately about mario 128 and how it may be a 2d sidescroller like super mario brothers
i dont know if that is true but that is what i really would like to see- a sidescrolling mario brothers game once again

Sunshine is already out, and Mario 128 and DK are in the works, so far as I know.  It looks like they're doing at least one game of all their big franchises this generation, and two for many of them, like Mario, Zelda (I think), Metroid, and Star Fox.  I'd say Pikmin and stuff, but those are new franchises.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but it sounds like the thread starter is actually asking why Nintendo hasn't produced a Gamecube version of the original Super Mario Bros. or Donkey Kong.   It seems that Nintendo's modus operandi thus far has been to embed the old classics in modern games as a special treat.  They have already done this with Super Mario Bros. via Animal Crossing, Metroid via Metroid Prime/Fusion, etc.  The more recent classics seem to get the GBA treatment.

Why do they do this?  I guess they see this method as having more value than flat-out re-releasing the old games.  Whether or not there is actually more value, I don't know.  It is certainly more fun, though.

How is Mario = Animal Crossing, exactly?

There are classic NES games hidden in Animal Crossing...

As for the music in the new DK game...Yeah, DKC had one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard in a game. But, Nintendo does have some of the best composers in the industry, people like Koji Kondo and Kenji Yamamoto. And Miyamoto really believes in the importance of music, and he is really fond of Rare's style with with DK series. So I don't think they are going to stray too far from Rare's formula. Plus, look at the recently launched http://www.donkeykongcountry.com ... That webside reeks of Rare-ness... I think that's enough proof that there are sticking with the Rare style, or else they wouldn't have launched that site...

Hopefully, they will simply remix all of the old tracks from the DKC games for the new game. Listen to the jungle theme remix in Super Smash Bros. Melee, it's quite excellent and hopefully the new game will have music like that.

Meh...the reason it reeks of rareness is because its a port of a port made by rare. I have a near exact copy of this game on gameboy color. it even has the 'new' fishing game. this is exactly what I had hoped that they wouldn't do...I'm not going to buy DKC for the third time. Imagine how people would have reacted if instead of porting mario 2 for GBA, they re-ported the original mario bros again even though they ported it to GBC a year or 2 ago.

This is very dissapointing, I want DKC 2 & 3 for GBA. Loved 2 and only rented 3 once. Give us the ones they haven't ported at all yet. Or else I'll threaten to go back to my former evil rom playing ways

Though I'll give it credit for the mid game save feature and the candy dance mini game. Better luck on the next one.

I'm honestly a bit worried about seeing a new Mario on GC.  Other than a blurb months ago about them tossing ideas and Miyamoto working on a new Mario, thats been it.  Even when bringing up new Mario and Zelda games at E3, Shigs went on about Zelda but kind of skirted the Mario issue with saying it would be simple to use the Sunshine engine and just build on that, but they are thinking about something different.  I hope they are are a lot further along than thinking or we'll see that Mario game either very near the end of the GC lifespan or as part of a huge push with the new console.

Hope N hasn't decided that with FZero and GBP coming in soon that they've fired all the bullets in the GC pea-shooter without much change and will hold their cards until next gen.

Original Donkey Kong?  You mean the one where Mario has to save that chick from Donkey Kong?

If you do, that would be a fantastic remake.  I would love to see over 50 levels of madness as Mario ascends latters, jumps from platforms, and maybe even solve puzzles just to get to that kidnapped princess Donkey Kong is holding hostage.  One he gets to her, DK whisks her away and thus; another stage starts.  All the while, DK sets up obstacles that impedes our hero.

Just wondering, the hero was called Jumpman.  He's the same as Mario, right?

I'd rather have DKC4 thank you very much...DK was good. DKC was a lot better.

Yeah Jumpman is the same as Mario...

i want the next Super Mario game to include the fire flower, toad suit, tanooki suit (sp), hammer suit, the racoon tail (or super cape, it doesn't matter).... if Nintendo doesn't want to do that for their GameCube outing, then i hope that they would make a new 2D Super Mario platformer on GBA

Maybe they will follow the same pattern as with the mario ports on gba. port the three dkc games and then make a new one (course I'm hoping that they will make a new mario once they run out of his ports). the only mario ports I'm have ever been interested in were yoshi's island and mario bros 3. and I'll probably get both dkc 2 and 3, but I'm more interested in 3 because I never bought it.

Here's hoping they are deving a new dkc and mario bros/world right now while a minimal team is working on the ports, would be nice to have new ones either in time for x-mas of early next year.

Wasn't there a remake of DKC on the Game Boy Color? Or was that my imagination?

It's not your imagination.  You're just in the Matrix.
