I pissed myself over some of the screens on the second page. Well, not actually. But yeah.
Enjoy!
Title: Super Mario, a communist?

Bah, the site is down, but let me just get a little something off my chest about people's view of communism. They seem to think it's some devil worshipping government of evil dictators but that's not true. A communist government, in theory, is extremely effective and extremely fair- it basically means the government collects everything produced in it's country and distributes them evenly among the citizens. The problem is, no country has ever had a true communist government. They just use it as a mask or excuse for hording every consumable in the country. Mankind is just too greedy to operate a communist government correctly, which is why it will never work. But it is NOT evil at hear.
Kind of off topic, but that's been bugging me for a while.

'In theory, communism worked...in theory.'

Exactly, KnowNothing. For instance- the US government cannot constitutionally ban a book, but what they can do is pay off retailers not to carry the book, effectively forcing it to fail. There's always loopholes and those loopholes are always exploited to their fullest extent multiple times.

Actually, mouse-clicker's reply had nothing to do with what KnowsNothing was getting at. Our country is not a TRUE Democracy. Real democracy doesn't work, because it requires to much involvement. It's a touchy-feely word we use for what our country (and other "democratic" countries) really is ... a Republic. We make our decisions by electing people to oversee the details. If we don't like the way our elected officials are carrying out government business, we simply elect new ones.
It's the only way to make Democracy work, actually. Otherwise, even basic decisions would take FAR too long.
As for Communism, there's nothing wrong with it. It has this negative connotation that hasn't gone away since the end of the Cold War. Communism is a wonderful idea, but unfortunately, it's always doomed to failure in practice. The theory of Communism is the ideal, but it always falls apart in the execution.

"I've always though mario looked ALOT like stalin."
I don't know. I've never seen Stalin look that cheerful. Wario is probably a better comparison.
I've never liked the idea of communism because I don't like the idea of everyone getting everything equal. I think if I do a better job or put more effort into something I should be able to get better. Nobody should be screwed but we shouldn't get everything equal. Even if everyone had the same work ethic (and that would NEVER happen in the real world) people naturally have different talents and someone who is better at doing something should be compensated fairly for it.
I agree that we don't live in a true democracy. Not only because we don't vote for every little decision but the actual election systems in both Canada in the US are flawed so that the resulting decision is not 100% accurate. For example in a BC provincial election about six or seven years ago the party that won the election technically got less votes than the runner-up but still got elected because of the way the system works.
In order for a true democracy to work you would need to have a small population of probably no more than 100 people so that they could vote on any decision that affected the whole community. But even then how do you determine what "affects the whole community".

"Actually, mouse-clicker's reply had nothing to do with what KnowsNothing was getting at."
Our two posts were linked in the similar idea of corruption, though- you're entirely correct that a true democracy couldn't work because it requires too much involvement (we don't even elect our own president in the US, or many other top officials- one of the first things you learn in American History class is that we elect the people who choose who our leaders are), but even if we COULD achieve a true democracy, greed is an ever present mentality among humans and will limit it as much as it can.

To my (small) understanding, the problem with Communism is that if nobody in the country can rise above a certain point of financial status and everybody's going to be paid regardless of the work they output, then there's no motivation, nobody puts any effort into the work, and the country's economy falls into shambles, making for a very poor --- and thus very unhappy --- country. Correct me if I'm wrong, though, I'm always up for learning something new. And also, I'm not saying Communism is bad, it's fine and all, it's just that I doubt it can work successfully. That's all.

Communism worked in small, primitive villages. Then the white men came, showed them the "advantages" of money and enslaved and killed the people for the lack of it. In a communist society, you work for the good of the people and the people will care for you. Everyone gets what they need, so there is no need for getting even more. If you take a look at utopian stories depicting good societies (as opposed to evil ones like 1984), most use communism. Unfortunately those will remain utopian while the evil ones will come quite soon. Some even are reality now.

Communism doesn't work because it requires people to deny the fact they are human.

Haha, that link is hilarious. I never thought about the red star thing. And, oh yeah, Mario looks a LOT like Stalin... I mean, despite his head being perhaps 10 by 10 pixels, he has a mustache.

Support the regime change! Comrade Mario leads the way!
His revolutionary actions does make him somewhat of a terrorist against the Troopa population though.

Hey, does anyone else think that the point about the end-level flags is a bit... scary? I mean, it's true; Mario's taking down a flag with the peace symbol on it and is replacing it with a red star! WTF?!? Maybe Mario IS a communist, which make make Miyamoto one too!

It doesn't look like a Peace symbol flag to me.

So what if true communism isn't established anywhere, that doesn't stop our favorite Italian anti-hero from fighting for his ideals. Viva la revolution!

Just vive.
That's pretty funny. As for the flags, that surprised me, but I'm pretty sure that the peace sign is a mushroom. Who knows about the star.
