Title: how are the Darksiders 2, Batman and BLOPS 2 ports?
Post by: magicmilner on November 23, 2012, 02:46:27 PM
I'm looking at picking these up for Wii U but i've been hearing that they are bad ports, has anyone bought these games and played through a good chunk of the game and had any bad problems with them?

I have not heard anything bad about the Wii U version of Call of Duty: Black Ops II (it's not a port since it came out at the same time as the other versions). The Wii U version of Darksiders II ha a really good 85 average on Metacritic (higher than the other versions). Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition has a 84 average and in general seems to be really favorable.

Can you opt out of the armor on Batman Arkham City?

Blobs is fantastic. Been playing a lot of online, I experienced one lag spike since launch up to today.

Other than that fantastic. Don't let the vocal minority make you think the other games are absolutely unplayable, far from it.

There's not much wrong with the ports other than a few spots in game where the framerate suffers but that might be addressed with patches (think COD alreay has one or will be out shortly).

The only real gripe is the pricing.  DSII and B AC can be found cheaper on other consoles sub-$25 vs $60 WIIU and with CoD it's the MP limited player count (less than 500 players vs 100,000+).  If you only have an WII U then by all means buy those games but if you "can" wait for anther 2-3 months those games should be 1/2 off I'm guessing.

To be fair, Batman comes with all $31 worth of DLC that has been released for the game. Darksiders also comes with the DLC that has been released so far.

Glad you asked this question, magicmilner, as it's been one I've been wondering myself. As the Wii U is my only HD system, I've been interested in Darksiders II and Batman. From what I've gathered, they are every bit as good as their original console counterparts, but the addition of Wii U features isn't anything really game-changing.

I have a feeling that I'll definitely pick them both up when they inevitably drop in price later on. I'm also really craving a good FPS, and Black Ops II is apparently quite good, but I prefer something a little more simplified. I loved the Wii version of Goldeneye, so I'm hoping something with similar mechanics comes along soon!

I couldn't justify Darksiders or Batman since I could buy the whole series for $59.  That's Both Batman games, both Darksider games, and all their DLC on Steam.  Just can't justify the price difference

COD: BLOPS 2 is fantastic. There are plenty of online payers. I have never had a problem being matched up. Runs beautifully. Silky smooth and super fun. Domination is my favourite so far.

BLOPS 2 is perfect. I just started it and I'm terrible with the Gamepad and the Wiimote/nunchuck, so I'm probably gonna have to get a pro controller. Never saw a single hiccup or glitch when I was playing.

If you have a Wii Classic Controller the game supports that.

I do have one...might try it out tomorrow. I really just need to get used to the Gamepad. The battery got drained so much during the update that I only had a few minutes with it.

I think i saw first game for ten bucks of something on Steam. Second game was also ready available for similar price.

I'm still buying Batman, Darksiders and AC3 day one for novelty's sake. Unfortunately only with AC3 i know that it's gonna be on par with consoles, but eh, i can deal with it.

I have yet to see an option to shut it off, but you can just not use it. You have to hit a button to activate it so you could easily ignore it.

You mean for appearances sake? Yeah I haven't noticed anything for that either but I did just start the game, and I've never played it (extensively) on another system so I don't know if there's an unlockable option for different costumes or whatever.

As for the power-up it offers, like Xenocide said (cool handle by the way) you can just not use it. It's a touch-screen icon but you can also press in the sticks to activate, so unless you accidentally do that, you won't have to worry about it much. I forget it's there to be honest.

Darksiders 2 is great. It comes with a ton of DLC.

BLOPS2 is excellent.  I was hoping that since I picked up at launch along with all the other wiiu owners, I'd be on an even playing field, but not so.  I still suck.

Gotten much better over the past couple of days, going positive in all BLOPS matches now. I was usually around 1.1 on the 360 COD games.

Okay, so my cousin got me Batman Arkham City Wii U as an early Christmas present. It seems to have all the DLC (Catwoman, Costumes, Nightwing, Robin, plus Harley Quinn side missions)

Graphically, it feels about the same as the PS3 version to me. Some of the tablet functions are nifty.

Digital Foundry did a scientific comparison and the the Wii U version version has anti-aliasing unlike the PS3 or 360 version, but the frame rate isn't locked at 30fps. It fluctuates from 40 to 20, depending on if there are enemies on screen. I've never been that sensitive to frame rate, so your mileage may vary.

Check out the screens and videos here: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-batman-arkham-city-wii-u-face-off (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-batman-arkham-city-wii-u-face-off)

By the way, Digital Foundry is the only place I trust so far for Wii U vs 360 vs PS3 comparisons. They accurately measure then show the good and the bad. Usually the differences are very minor in the videos. I believe they did a head to head to head for BLOPSII and Mass Effect as well.

Here they are:

Catwoman still looks sexy in that shiny armor.

I have Batman on rental from Gamefly right now and I'm somewhat mystified at all the posts on other sites about graphical and framerate issues.  It seems just fine to me, but I guess I'm not that discerning of a gamer!  If Wii U is your only way to get these games, then by all means get them.

I've probably put more time into this game then any of the other Wii U games I have and the framerate issue is incredibly minor. It's only happened once on me, during a cutscene. I've gotten to the Ra's al Ghoul fight that has dozens of characters fighting you at once and I didn't experience a single issue with that.

I'm sure people are just blowing it out of proportion.

I wonder if there is any slow down during the beat down game modes outside of the main game. Some of those have a bunch of different enemies all attacking you at once.
