Not everything will be available out of box.

Features such as Miiverse, Nintendo TVii, Nintendo eShop, and Wii U Chat will be unavailable on the Wii U until users install an update, which will be made available on launch day.
Systems that are currently out there lack these features, but will have access to them soon. Whether this day-one update will also come with other surprises is currently unknown.
The Wii U and this patch will both be released on November 18 in North America.
The big question on my mind: Will Wii U properly handle Daylight Savings Time? :) I can't speak for Xbox 360 or Vita, but all other consoles that I've gotten my hands on do not.
Not fully. I have to go into the settings and turn the DST setting to true or false. It would be nice if it could be more automatic than that. Computers have been doing it for almost 20 years now.The big question on my mind: Will Wii U properly handle Daylight Savings Time? :) I can't speak for Xbox 360 or Vita, but all other consoles that I've gotten my hands on do not.
Ps3 does it, i'm pretty sure. Shame the 3DS doesn't!
Wii U launches in one week - it's an all-new console with all new controls and new features previously unseen on a Nintendo platform - but what everyone REALLY wants to know, the BIG question: can it tell time?!?!? :P: :What we really want to know is what is the Maximum amount of lazy we can have. Like will my Wii U update itself with me never having to fiddle with it? Will I have to fiddle with the clock? Will I have to fiddle with my Password each time?
LOL I know you were only half joking, but to answer your questions:
XBOX 360: Yes, it does auto update DST
PS3: Yes, it does auto-update DST (choose update via Internet option - I haven't had any issues with it in years)
3DS: As far as I can tell, no.
WiiU: I'm waiting for Reggie to get back to me on that.

Honest question, is there any reason/benefit to have all these features be a day-one update instead of having them built-in to the system?I have no problem with them having a day-0 update, if all of the update's features involve on-line features. If someone doesn't want their Wii U online, they aren't missing anything by not updating.
Honest question, is there any reason/benefit to have all these features be a day-one update instead of having them built-in to the system? They can start manufacturing Wii U earlier. We know that they started at least in September. I'm sure that most of the system underneath were still being tweaked because they haven't really shown it.
Not quite true, the Forecast Channel and News Channel both came after launch.Ah, I thought I might be missing some, but I knew the shop channel was there. Still, it just seems odd to me. Anyone who gets the system early can't give full impressions before launch, and everyone will have to sit through a (hopefully not lengthy) update screen when they get it.

Not a problem for me, but that's a bad form from Nintendo.
Ummm, wow you call that trolling? you have some serious sensitivity issues than brother. You have to admit your question was a little ridiculous given the context of this article, I just made fun of that fact, not you personally. Also, I went on to try and actually answer your question so if that bothers you I'd venture to say that your reply to me was more of troll - but I won't because I know the difference and have the ability to laugh at myself.Wii U launches in one week - it's an all-new console with all new controls and new features previously unseen on a Nintendo platform - but what everyone REALLY wants to know, the BIG question: can it tell time?!?!? :P: : : : : : : : :

I thought I could be troll-free at a site like this, I guess I'm wrong.
I'm just as caught up on the news as most of the staff at this site. I understand that not EVERYONE has this question, but that still doesn't mean that I can't ask it.

In the future why don't you lighten up a little, maybe don't take yourself so seriously, we're all here for the same reason.
Abiding Fanboyish chasing of Super?
Will hug for Jellybeans or if Button Compels me.QuoteAbiding Fanboyish chasing of Super?
:D Also, @llaffer, can we just bring it in for hug? Seriously, let's just digital hug it out right now (not sure what the emoticon for that is, maybe you can show me and we can have a heart-warming Internet moment?)
Wii U is almost a week away, Reggie and Satoru would want it that way. Plus I don't want things to be awkward if we stumble into each other in the Miiverse or at WaraWara Plaza.
your friend in Nintendo.
