Title: Wii U Boot Screen Officially Revealed for Television and GamePad
Post by: Patchkid15 on November 07, 2012, 07:04:38 AM

Now we will finally know what we will see when we turn on the system.

When the Wii U turns on, the television and GamePad will display different screen menus, as was shown during this morning's Wii U Nintendo Direct.

The television screen will first load the WaraWara Plaza, a screen we have seen before. On this screen, various Miis gather around different game icons where they will mingle and chat about the games they surround, showing messages other players have posted.

The  newly-revealed menu screen on the GamePad bears a striking resemblance to the Wii's home menu. This menu features a Wii Channel-like appearance, with several additional buttons that activate things such as the internet browser, the eShop, and Miiverse.

With the touch of another button, you can swap the two menus from the television and the GamePad's screen.

The Wii U launches in North America on November 18.

Can't say I'm to surprised they went with the 3DS layout  for the touch screen.  Simple, consistant but effective.

Can you boot the system up without the gamepad?  Say the battery is dead and all I have available is a wii remote or a pro controller.  Can I get to the game without hitting the disk icon on the gamepad?

My Nintendo dreams came true!

Love the simplicity of the channel system, and this is exactly what I had hoped for. Made my day.

A bit of an odd comparison to make considering that it is actually identical to the 3/DS home menu while the only resemblance to the Wii is that it is icon/tile-based. To be fair, only about 170 Million people actually own a 3DS or DS so I could see how that would be an obscure reference :P:

Swapnote on 3ds was really addicting.

I'm glad they're making their entire system around it.

Its Wa-ta Wa-ta... I thought it was Wa-ra Wa-ra.  I figure Reggie would know a good amount of Japanese by now.

Nintendo has basically created their own social network, but for games. I see many possibilities for this in the future. Exciting stuff.

Very strange that it's still called the WaraWara Plaza on North American and European Wii U consoles, though. That's a peculiar thing to not localise.
