A new Wii bundle is being released to stores at a suggested retail price of $129.99. The bundle will replace the existing bundle which includes New Super Mario Bros. Wii and a music CD at the $149.99 price point, and will include Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort on a single disc.

The new bundle includes a black Wii console and both a black Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk.

The new Wii bundle is on its way to store shelves now. Nintendo expects the bundle to be widely available by October 28.

I don't need another Wii, but I'd love to get my hands on one of those Wii Sports + Resort combo discs.

I take it this one has no backwards compatibility correct?

The press release doesn't specify, but it would appear so.

Agreed.  Also, I think $129.99 is still a little more than what i'd be willing to plink down for another Wii.  If it were at the $99 price point, I think it would be a much more tempting proposition.

Granted, I already saw a local Best Buy selling their systems at this price a few weeks ago, so it already looks like retailers were trying to find a way to get their remaining Wiis off the shelf before the new system arrived.  Just not sure how many potential buyers are left for the system...i'd imagine the market is already saturated with the system.

It was a little over 14 years ago when both the Nintendo 64 and PlayStation dropped to $129.99 on August 25 1998.

Also, no way this new bundle has backwards compatibility.

Wow.  I'd love to see some screenshots of the menus and stuff for the combo disc.  Do you guys think it will just have you choose which game you want, then it will boot it up, or do you think the 2 games will somehow be merged into one?

It's almost certainly a case of booting to a screen where you pick which one you want, which loads the original game. They're not going to put anymore effort into it than they have to.

Frankly, I am surprised they are even doing that rather than just bundle the 2 discs in one package.

That would be very slightly more expensive for them, and they could probably have some rookie developer slap together the select screen in an afternoon.

Some EU countries already had the combo disc... so I'm guessing they just had to do a little bit of localization on the menu.

I think the fact we're finally getting the combo disc in the US shows that Operation Rainfall's efforts were successful and that Reggie heart has grown three sizes.

No more Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack CD? Good thing my mom gave me the CD that came with the Wii I bought her! She doesn't give two shits about Mario games.
