Title: The Insanity Begins Again....Where can I still buy a Wii U?
Post by: leahsdad on September 15, 2012, 03:28:50 PM
I just spent an hour on the phone looking for a Deluxe system preorder...which made me realize, hey, I should start a thread so that we can pool information.

So as of right now, as far as I'm aware, Gamestop has stopped accepting preorders on the Deluxe/Premium SKU, both in stores on online.

BestBuy has stopped online, but is still accepting preorders in stores.

Kmart is accepting preorders online, but is not yet accepting preorders in stores.

And that's what I've got so far.   I'm going to stop by Bestbuy later today to get my preorder in there.

I think Walmart.com still has them in stock, but they're bundled.

With that said, don't worry... I'm sure you'll be able to walk into any store and pick one up on release day. :D

At this rate, I may go the Wal-Mart online bundle route.  It wouldn't kill me to have a spare Wii Motion Plus, and I was planning on getting an additional Wii U game anyway.  Just need to wait for my next paycheck.

As I mentioned in the Wii U thread, my backup plan is to store hop on launch day, but I have a sinking suspicion that it'll be easier said than done.

Yeah, I put an online preorder in on Best Buy's website yesterday, and today I received a message that there was a problem with my order -- something about the billing information that I entered not matching what my bank has on file or some bullshit like that. So I just went ahead and cancelled that order. I've since put a preorder in on Future Shop's website, and am waiting to see if there will be complications with that one as well.

What I really want to know is when the bloody effing hell is Amazon going to put the Wii U itself up for preorder?

Never, apparently.
Amazon doesn't sell Nintendo hardware or something...

Really? They seem to sell the Nintendo 3DS... Perhaps it's a console thing?

Where's the link for 3DS units sold by Amazon?

I think the 3ds's they are selling are through other places just using their market place as a exchange.

Amazon sent a message to all the people who signed up to be notified about Wii U preorders.  I will copy and paste what they sent me.

Dear Amazon.com Customer,

Thank for you signing up to be notified when the Wii U is available.
Unfortunately the Wii U console is not available at Amazon.com at this time but please check back in the future, as availability may change.
We do have the latest Wii U games and accessories available now so check them out.
Thank you for shopping with Amazon Video Games.
I guess they could change things around before launch, but the thing with the 3ds has been going on for like 8 months or something.  Maybe a year now?  Not sure.    I was pretty bummed too.

I just pre-ordered at gamestop nearby, unfortunately it's the $299.99 model, but I was told I could upgrade if anymore open up for the premium model.

Hope they'll get more, as it's the one I want.

Last I heard Toys R Us and Best Buy were still accepting pre-orders, but I'm not sure what the current situation is regarding store vs. online, and if my information is out of date.

Are there any places that absolutely have NOT opened pre-orders? Either online or in-person?

I looked at the WalMart one and it's not bad if you're in the market for an extra Wiimote Plus. [Edit: Actually, since games are not $60 the WalMart bundle doesn't charge you anything extra at all, they just force you to buy more]

I checked everything earlier today, and only ToysRUs.com still had pre-orders open. Kmart had some earlier but then ran out. GameStop, Target, Walmart, Sears, and Best Buy were all out.

Unless I'm mistaken, the 3DS is being sold directly from Amazon:

Oh fudge, you are correct. I could have sworn that when I posted that, it didn't say that. I was certain to look there before I linked it... Well at any rate, you've certainly prevented me from waiting for Amazon to offer pre-orders.

EDIT: Ahh, apparently it takes a moment to load that information.

As suspected, I received an e-mail from the second website on which I tried to submit a pre-order, telling me that there was a problem with my order and to call them. To hell with that. How about you don't be lazy and remove the option to pre-order the damn thing from your website?

Just put in a pre-order at EB Games. We'll see if that's fruitful.

Glad I jumped on mine right away. I think my brother is holding out for a major launch party like Wii had. I'm almost sure Nintendo will do it again at the same place. If its like last year they will have 500+ Wii Us available. I will be there despite preordering mine at BB miles and miles away. I gotta 50$ gift card, better use it during all the festivities.

3DS is available through amazon.ca. Sold and shipped by amazon.ca. They don't have the Wii U in the system yet though, but some games are.

Amazon hasn't shipped any 3DS's since last October because apparently they had large numbers just sitting in their warehouses (when the 3DS wasn't selling well), and Nintendo refused to give them a special deal like they do with Walmart and also refused to let Amazon sell the system at a discount (and the last straw was when Nintendo let Walmart sell the 3DS at a discount before the official price drop). So apparently people who work at Amazon say that it's Amazon who refuses to buy hardware from Nintendo right now.

Nintendo doesn't set the retail price for hardware.  It's illegal for them to do so.  As they found out once before.

Post by: TJ Spyke on September 15, 2012, 10:24:17 PM
Actually, it's NOT illegal for them to set the price. It's called the MSRP. Retailers can sell it for less than the MSRP, but then they lose money on it since the profit margin for retailers is razor-thin. Amazon essentially wanted Nintendo to compensate them for selling it at a discount.

I didn't say Nintendo can force them to sell it at that price, just that technically they do set the price and retailers can choose to sell it or not at that price. But Amazon wanted to sell it for less and Nintendo to compensate them for that.
Title: Re: The Insanity Begins Again....Where can I still buy a Wii U?
Post by: BranDonk Kong on September 15, 2012, 10:42:34 PM
They don't set the price - they SUGGEST the price, based on what they sell it to retailers for. Just like a bag of chips will have an MSRP, but the store may sell it for less.

So, according to you, based off of what I'm betting you read on some random internet forum with no reliable sources, Amazon won't sell Nintendo products because Nintendo doesn't give them special discounts that they supposedly give the LARGEST RETAILER IN THE WORLD that likely orders in much larger quantities.  or something.
Title: Re: The Insanity Begins Again....Where can I still buy a Wii U?
Post by: BranDonk Kong on September 15, 2012, 11:18:06 PM
Wal-Mart could sell Amazon in their store if they wanted to. Wal-Mart will rape you if you don't give them a .5 cent (as in half a penny) discount, and put your company out of business. Amazon doesn't have that same power, especially now that they are basically eBay.
Title: Re: The Insanity Begins Again....Where can I still buy a Wii U?
Post by: UncleBob on September 15, 2012, 11:24:22 PM
Exactly.  As big as Amazon is, Walmart is still #1 (Amazon is #15 I think) and is bigger than the next five largest retailers (#2-6, for those counting) COMBINED.

TJ's story makes little sense - and if it's true that Amazon was demanding parity with a chain that has sales more than ten times what it does... well, Amazon was pretty darn stupid.

I can find the sources if I looked, but that is basically what happened. Amazon wanted the same treatment as Walmart, and Nintendo bulked, so Amazon decided to stop selling Nintendo hardware. If/when Wii U becomes a huge seller, Amazon will probably swallow their pride and order units from Nintendo.

I don't think there's a person alive that has to use Amazon exclusively. The 3DS is doing fine without Amazon.

I love it.  Less than a day old and 2 pages long, and this thread has already derailed into a bicker-fest on what Nintendo can and can't force retailers to do with pricing, and whether or not TJ Spyke is deliberately backpedaling on his comments or is completely unaware of his conflicting statements.

I guess since there are limited answers to the actual thread subject, then there isn't necessarily a reason to try to keep on topic.

Neither one of them needs the other that badly, which is why it's gone as long as it has. It's only really a problem right now because of the lack of preorders, since you can buy a 3DS through Amazon from a third party and it even supports Amazon Prime, and if that holds true with the Wii U post-release then both sides may keep it this way indefinitely.

Well, to get this thread back on track, I'd like to throw this out there.  I would advise everyone go to an FYE or similar stores and look for preorders there.  Most people never seem to go there right off the bat so you might luck out.  That's always been my go-to place when I've exhausted all other outlets.  Now I will mention though that their allocations are usually insanely small so act quick and don't put all your eggs in that basket (given allocations are low, you might miss out on the initial delivery and have to wait for another shipment).

Damn stupid girl at Best Buy.  So I drove over there only to find out that the girl I talked to on the phone was wrong, they are not taking in-store/in-person preorders for the Wii U yet.  Now, whether that means they'll start taking preorders at a future time, or if they will never take preorders in-store, I have no idea.   Does Best Buy take preorders for console launches?

I also drove over to Target and Kmart.   They also are not taking preorders, though the clerks there don't know if they'll take preorders in the future or if they just won't until launch.

Anyone else had any luck?   It seems that other than online stores or online sites for physical stores, only Gamestop was taking in-person, walk-in preorders, and they're all gone.

And why is this craziness happening?   With all the sour faces and finger wagging at the Wii U, I did not expect things to explode like this.  It has been less than 72 hours people!  Less than 72 hours after the Nintendo Direct!   Are initial allotments super low, or are the Wii-Bowling grandmas back in force?

So here was my Saturday, I went looking for the WiiU Pre-order at the brick and mortar rather than online:

Gamestop: Out of the Black, only White remain. Not getting any more Blacks. NEXT!

Wal-Mart: No, we don't have any pre-orders for the Wii U.

Hastings: No, but we did get an email about the Wii U this week. Check back.

Fred Meyer: No, we don't have anything for pre-orders, sorry.

Best Buy: Score! One Black Wii U please. Here is my five dollars. They just started taking pre-oders  I was the sixth preorder today. Probably going to have a midnight launch, check back for details.

Didn't have to check: Target, Shopko. K-Mart, Sears.

LeahsDad: What they did at my Best Buy is there was a large vertical touch screen on one of the end caps. The sales clerk punch in Wii U and selected the black one (A customer could use this kiosk too) and it printed out a receipt. I took this receipt to a check stand and paid five dollars. I now have the pre-order.

ARRGH!   Yeah, I didn't get pushy or spend too much time with the sales girl because I was there with my wife and kids.    I'm going to have to go back tomorrow first thing in the morning.

I admit that I don't shop at Best Buy often, but I've never seen this kiosk thing.   I'm in Los Angeles, CA.   You're not writing from some Canadian Best Buy, are you?  You know, where wishes are horses and all your dreams come true?   I must be sure!

I can say, albeit not with 100% confidence, that I got my preorder.   I ended up going with PC Richard and Son, whose website is here (http://www.pcrichard.com).

Now, I've never heard of this site or retailer before a few months ago, but apparently they are a large east coast chain retailer specializing in electronics.  I ordered my 3DS XL from them, because Amazon wasn't selling them, for all the reasons we've already covered in this thread.

I say "not with 100% confidence" because I don't know if their site (which looks very professional) is updated in real time, i.e. their product page turns into "out of stock" when they run through all their preorders.  I figure I'll find out by Monday when their stock manager or whoever rolls into work and checks their online orders.

But I had no problem getting my 3DS XL from them, and while that didn't arrive as quickly as I would have liked (took about 7 business days), that was free shipping.  They're charging me 9 bucks shipping for the Wii U Black, but then again, since their east coast, they're not charging me sales tax (which starting today in California, Amazon would if they weren't giving Nintendo the silent treatment).

At least now I won't have to tell my wife in the morning "yeah honey, I'm going to run over to Best Buy real fast to convince some sales girl to take my money for a video game system I won't see for 2 months.  Have fun with the kids for an hour, okay?"

Oh and yes the Bowling Grandmas are back, same with the Golfing Grandpas and just when we thought it was safe too!

It really is amazing how fast the preorders are going considering all the doom and gloom. Nov 17th even Broodwars will post in here desperately trying to buy one.

Yup, LA CA.  The Best Buy in West Hollywood, next to the Target and the Gamestop (which was how I checked up on those stores in one go).   I hate shopping, and especially hate going to stores.   That's why I'm glad I found a place online that won't charge me sales tax.

And as much as I would love to go to these Midnight Launch parties (I really, really would), I've got 2 jobs, 2 kids and a a very non-gamer wife, so they're not an option for me.  Aah....to be young and single again.

I hope this means that they have a HUGE supply of (black) systems in production and that Pre-Orders are just really really high, and not that they only planned for a limited launch and pre-orders have already exhausted that limited supply.

West Hollywood, not the one on La Brea is it? But yeah I understand, my daughter is 5 months now and while my wife is super understanding of video games I know when I need to cool it on the over playing. She can't stop my Pokemon though, I do that where I want when I want!

@BlackNMild - I bet Nintendo is not exactly preparing for 2 year Wii like sell out, but I'm certain they won't let a shortage like that happen again. Though the buzz that would create would be good for them, putting everyone in a slap yo momma  frenzy.

There's probably two regulars here who are opting out of preorder mania, myself and broodwars. One's financial, one's lack of games.

I called Gamestop yesterday.  They've already ran out of pre-orders for the Premium Addition, and are quickly running out of the bare-bones Wii U preorders.

As far as I can tell, right now the only option is to preorder from Wal-Mart (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nintendo-Wii-U-Solution-Bundle-w-Customer-Choice-of-Wii-U-Game-and-Wii-Remote-Plus/21803986), but then you have to also purchase a game and Wii Remote with it (not a bad deal if you're needing both).  I'm not certain how long this will last, given the fervor at the other locations for the Wii U.

Well, I just placed my order for one of those Walmart.com bundles.  I really wanted to hold out for Amazon taking pre-orders (I have enough Amazon giftcard money saved up to cover the system and a game), but it's just not looking likely and I didn't want to be left out in the cold when even Wal-Mart sells out of preorders.

Edit: One thing I would like to point, though, is that Wal-Mart is charging you the entire amount upfront when you place an order, no small pre-order fee, but all $450 (plus tax/shipping) for the Deluxe console + game + WiiMote.

anyone hear anything if or when Gamestop will be taking pre-orders of the premium Wii U? I wanna upgrade asap.

Really don't have a need for more wii motes xD plus I plan on doing the trade in to pay for the system and games. Just hoping to go from the basic to the premium. I'm sure yjeir be getting more Black wii u's than this xD

The kiosk is a beautiful thing.  It has different prices than the online store.  You can order stuff that the store doesn't have at that moment and get it at the store price.  Sometimes the price is much lower than online, so it's worth it. And it can preorder things for you too as if you are ordering online, but it comes to the store.  I'd say this is probably the best way to preorder a system right now.

It really is amazing how fast the preorders are going considering all the doom and gloom. Nov 17th even Broodwars will post in here desperately trying to buy one.

I'll spare us all from a copy/paste from the NFR 4.5 thread and say this: No.

There's probably two regulars here who are opting out of preorder mania, myself and broodwars. One's financial, one's lack of games.
I'm opting out too.  I'm planning to make a trip to my friends' place in Oregon sometime in 2013 and will pick one up then.  I save on tax and get a 10% discount due to one of them working there. :) Of course, that won't stop me posting about the excitement I hear about.

Indeed. Like many folks, Nintendo has yet to convince me that the Wii U is worth its price considering its lack of must-buy exclusive software (everything else I can, and probably will, just buy for my PS3).

Even if I wanted to buy a Wii U, though, pre-orders on the less-gimped Wii Us sold out days ago.  I can wait till next year when Nintendo actually announces something I want to buy, perhaps with a price cut as well.  In the meantime, someone who actually wants the damn thing can enjoy it for Christmas instead.

I support this line of thinking. Actually, it was my exact approach to the 3DS launch. (Ambassador program finally made me change my mind five months later and I'm glad I did!)

I'll be waiting as well, buying a system at launch isn't worth the money to me. There aren't enough games to satisfy my interests, and there won't be any good sales or old bargain games to find.

Apparently, you can pre-order the UNBUNDLED system at Walmart.com for regular price if you have the right link, but you have to be willing to depend on Walmart honoring those orders and have to risk slow snail mail shipping when they do (allegedly, the same thing happened for the 360 at launch?).

source (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=42200823&postcount=1081)

Oh... I'm not sure if Walmart wants to charge you full price now instead of when it ships. If so that's pretty unappealing...

You know, the crazy thing about this whole situation is that the Wii U price and launch date were announced DAYS AGO.

I still can't believe that demand is this high.   None of the press was favorable around the Nintendo Direct.   Which is leading me to suspect that there is a serious manufacturing problem.   I think the 3DS shipped...what, 2 million units for launch for North America?   I suspect the Wii U is a whole lot smaller...I bet 500,000 units available at launch, maybe even less.

I know we have some Europeans and Australians here....is it like this across the Pacific and the Atlantic, or is this a very special situation we have here in North America?

I'm guessing that retailers just don't know the exact numbers that they're going to get yet and wanted to play it safe on the earliest pre-orders.  I bet they'll open them back up again in October or something when they have more concrete information.  Also, you can bet they are going to manufacture a hell of a lot more than 500,000 units for launch.  I'll eat my shoe if I'm wrong.

I walked into Best Buy around 2PM today and preordered the Deluxe Set. I haven't decided to get one yet, but the preorder $5 and I'd rather be safe than sorry. I have about 2 months to figure it out. I'm still hoping there are some surprises for the launch window before the end of the year otherwise I'd pretty much be buying a new console for Mario.

I honestly don't expect any surprises within the launch window time frame. I feel like Nintendo showed the 50 games they have planned from now until the end of March and we have no reason to suspect any additions where that time frame is concerned.

EDIT: Actually, I take that back. I'd love to see some surprises on the eShop between now and then!

Not pre-ordered. I bought both of my Xbox 360s there though, my 3DS, and my PlayStation 3. I don't think they offered pre-orders before (maybe they did for systems, but they only recently started a test program fro pre-ordering games). Never had any problem.

The only preorder experience I have a BB was a bad one, though it was about 8 years ago (so maybe it's better now).  I spent the $5 to preorder a game.  When it came in, I got no notice (I knew when it was releasing).  I then had to stand in the return line to actually buy it.  When I finally got to the front, they preceded to look for my preorder and could not find it.   I ended up just getting a refund of the $5 and went to Target and bought the game instead.  Hopefully, they are better now.  Adrock makes it sound like they are.

I don't believe Best Buy calls when you preorder. They might, but I don't recall it happening for me (though I prefer they not call side I typically know release dates). The projected release date is on the receipt. You have to wait in the customer service line, but they normally have the game on a shelf or rack up there. I never preordered hardware there. I asked them to hold a Zune HD for me and there were no issues. I believe the last game I preordered there was Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Limited Edition. They had to pull it from the back because they didn't even open the box yet.

Gamestop near my house told me they had just gotten an email this morning telling them to stop taking pre-orders, even on basic sets. They had only managed to take 7(!!) pre-orders before the notice came to stop.

Walked into my local Best Buy and reserved the basic set.

If pre-orders don't open up before launch(which I'm sure they will) we're probably looking at a ridiculously low number of units. That can't be good.

I heard that GameStop was looking at stock nationwide to determine their cut-offs, suggesting that some stores might end up with less pre-orders than others, but the aggregate number in total meant that they couldn't risk taking any more pre-orders period, whether they had 7 preorders at that store or 70.

Walmart re-opened their Wii U Bundle option on their online store. You can opt to pay $10 more for a Pro Controller instead of sticking with the Wii Remote Plus. It looks to me like they're not charging any extra over MSRP, just forcing you to buy things.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nintendo-Wii-U-Solution-Bundle-w-Customer-Choice-of-Wii-U-Game-and-Wii-Remote-Plus/21803986

Is it true they try to charge the whole amount to you now instead of when it ships?

2 ebay, 2 for his kids, 2 for his sisters kids.

I was like are you fucken kidding me? Seriously they allowed more than 1 preorder a person? WTF.

The source is me. I was angry at the clerk and said that fucken sucks and walked off.
I went to another Target and they didn't even know what it was. They thought I was talking about the U draw for Wii and told me to come back when somebody who knows what they are talking about is their, the person in charge said more tickets would come but the spot for them wasn't even on the shelf.

So I went to Toys R Us Wednesday night and got mine reserved. The girl said only one more ticket for white one and I asked her nicely to look around and eventually she found one that had both barcodes so I can choose. So the other tickets were for the deluxe or basic, this ticket was unique and gave the consumer the option and had both barcodes on it. I picked the deluxe and paid my $20 and left.

Pre-ordered my 8GB model from Sears's web site (you have to dig through the site to find that one, so that's probably why it's still there). If something opens up later I may switch to the 32gb model, but I'm not terribly broken up about it if I end up getting stuck with the basic set.

Wanted to start a thread for folks trying to get information about pre-orders, and as we get closer to November, launch details for retailers.

As far as I can tell, Game Stop is no longer taking pre-orders, and Best Buy has allocated it's anticipated stock.

Online, most retailers have sold out of their pre-orders.

So it looks like if you weren't fortunate enough to grab one of those, snagging any excess at launch is the next best bet.  As we get closer to the release date, hopefully this thread can be updated with useful info about how the brick and mortar store will be handling the launch.

Preordered through Best buy back on the 13th, and got a charge notice for the full amount in my email.

I just got another charge notice on my credit card moments ago for the same amount i thought i paid on the 13th.

I was worried my card info got stolen and someone else was trying to pre-order a Wii u from Best Buy on my card...

Called my card and realized that the first charge wasn't even made, so it seems that Best Buy is putting a hold for that amount on my card, and checking to make sure it is still available. So if it happens to you, don't panic.

Ha ha.  Hell no.   If RFN is the video game podcast for adults, then I think the NWR forums are fair game.  Besides, my daughter pays more attention to the ads on the side of the screen than anything else.  Who needs a Wii U, when I can play "Forge of Empires" from InnoGames.   Hey, it says I can play now.  For free!  I know because of the way these site ads work, no one who reads this will likely ever see the same ad, but the look on this cheap CG king is priceless.  He's just staring me down, in a very disapproving way, like he's saying "Really, you're in your mid thirties.  You should be reading Salon or the Huffington Post.  But a video game site?" or "You will never be young again, no matter how many Gameboy virtual console games you play."

Back on topic, it looks like the only place you can get an 8GB Wii U (the only model left, of course) online without a bundle is Sears. Wal-Mart makes you buy a pro controller and a game, Toys R Us makes you buy Batman and Scribblenauts.

This what I wanted from Unclebob:

"At Type A Super Wal-Marts on November 14th at 11pm, go straight the rear doors nearest to the right of the electronics department. Go up the stairs and into the first door on the right. Inside you will find a palette of Black Wii U systems still wrapped in plastic. Make a slit in the plastic and remove the system in the bottom back right corner of the palette. Turn around and you will see a box of Pit Bull CDs directly across from you. Put the black Wii U box underneath the Pit Bull CDs. Exit the store and return on November 18th. When the electronics associate says they are sold out, ask him to look in the back "under the Pit Bull CDs." VOILA! YOU NOW HAVE A WII U."

That'll probably mess up corporate plans to open a presell program...

Spoke to a rep at my local GameStop. He told me that although they aren't currently taking any more pre-orders, they will take your name & number down to put you on a waiting list for when they confirm they'll have more pre-orders available.

I'm gonna go do that **** tomorrow. It sucks that I will have to become a member of their stupid program, and will miss out on a launch Wii U (unless they get non-preorder stock), but I have $170 credit there, so that's where I'm getting my Wii U.

Sounds like the anti-Japanese movement couldn't have come at a worse time for Nintendo.  Plants being closed in China when production was already lagging behind which means there's going a shortage of consoles even for people that preorder--same as the WII's launch if you recall.

Just because you pre-ordered doesn't mean you're going get it on launch day.  Employees have a "poor" habbit at grabbing hot items for themselves and reselling on Ebay.

That's not what the local Wal-Mart electronocs associate told me! Now we're getting the inside scoop. When can the public pre-rder a pre-sell Wii U from Wally World?

Looks like the price of the unit plus $11.25 shipping plus tax.  Tempting...

Well, now Sears.com is out of the 8GB stand-alone, so only the Wal-Mart and TRU bundles are left.

Where can you still buy a Wii U? The answer is... anywhere!

All you have to do is start lining up outside the store 12 hours before it opens on November 18th. My Wii camp out experience back in 2006 was great (besides the freezing weather), and I'll be doing it again this year with Wii U.

While part of me loved the experience six years ago (I actually got mine just before Christmas rather than launch day), and would like to do that again, it's simply too much for me at this point, especially considering I'd have to work on the 19th.

I debated whether I line up or not this year and the big factor was if my son was old enough to handle it.  The answer was no so, I'll be doing it next time.  I like for him to have the experience at least once.

My campout experience was horrible.  We were in line for 12 hours and had to have relief from friends because of a surprise birthday party for my wife.  When we left, everything was fine.  15 minutes after we left, we got a call from the friends stating that they were kicked out of line because one lady at the end who knew there weren't enough Wii's for her threw a hissy fit that my friends were not their before her even though they were just standing in until we could return.  She got her way and we wasted 12 hours (though the Mario Kart DS games were fun with others in line).  So I've decided to wait to get one until I visit my friends in Oregon.  That won't be until next year and I'm hoping that supply won't be an issue by then.

To be fair, I don't think u should be allowed to hold a spot for someone in line, so I can't blame her. The only exception I can understand is for bathroom breaks.

No I understand that.  But she was told that she was not getting a system and the number they had.  She was waiting for 8 hours looking for something like that to happen.  Everyone else who came was told that they wouldn't get one.  She stayed specifically to ruin someone else's day if she possibly could.  She did it to us on my wife's birthday.  Kudos to her for getting a Wii at the expense of another person.  Still doesn't mean I have to like it and I'm not dealing with something like that again.

So, Walmart is starting pre-orders today, Sunday the 14th, in the layaway department. Any comment, worst poster Unclebob?

Aside from the lack of promotion Walmart has given it? :(

10% down +$5 fee (get the $5 fee back on a gift card when you pick up the order).

Black "Pro" console only.

Pre-orders end when the company sells out of their allotment.

I did the Walmart layaway today. I was first and showed up an hour and a half after layaway opened. My store also has ZERO promotional materials for the WiiU. You wouldn't even know the system was coming out.

I also did the Wal-Mart layaway thang today.  I had tried to pre-order that stupid bundle on their website a month back, and now I'm glad that it didn't work out.  Would it still be a good idea to show up pretty early for the midnight launch even if I have one reserved?  I know with some stores a preorder don't mean a whole heck of a lot.

Me too, I canceled my pre-order with Gamestop for the basic and put $131 at wal-mart for the deluxe today, I'm glad it turned out, I was hoping to get that version. Now to wait for Nov. 18th. Hope they'll have it at midnight like they did for GameCube.

Happy Camper I am, definately looking to Nintendoland.

Walmart layaway has a ton of fine print, but I think I have my head wrapped around it.  I was still able to put in a layaway order this past Saturday.  Seems they're still accepting them, but the clerk didn't know if that meant that I would be able to get the console at launch.  We'll see how it turns out.

Should be, mine tells me I can pick mine up as soon as 12:02am Nov. 18th, I heard Monday they've stopped taking any more orders. So Yay me! lol

If you did layaway, then you can't pick it up until you've paid it off.  So if you pay it off by the 18th, you should be able to pick it up then.

Although the clerk said I couldn't pay it off, but had to leave a penny?

right, at least two cents, so they can track it until it's out and paid for, I read it somewhere.
