I'm sure you'll be able to walk into any store and pick one up on release day. :D

Where's the link for 3DS units sold by Amazon?
You're mistaken. :D
"Ships from and sold by Just 4 Games."

Oh fudge, you are correct. I could have sworn that when I posted that, it didn't say that. I was certain to look there before I linked it... Well at any rate, you've certainly prevented me from waiting for Amazon to offer pre-orders.
EDIT: Ahh, apparently it takes a moment to load that information.
Amazon hasn't shipped any 3DS's since last October because apparently they had large numbers just sitting in their warehouses (when the 3DS wasn't selling well), and Nintendo refused to give them a special deal like they do with Walmart and also refused to let Amazon sell the system at a discount (and the last straw was when Nintendo let Walmart sell the 3DS at a discount before the official price drop). So apparently people who work at Amazon say that it's Amazon who refuses to buy hardware from Nintendo right now.
You know what that "S" stands for, right?
I didn't say Nintendo can force them to sell it at that price[...]
[...]refused to let Amazon sell the system at a discount[...]
I can find the sources if I looked,Please do.
I love it. Less than a day old and 2 pages long, and this thread has already derailed into a bicker-fest on what Nintendo can and can't force retailers to do with pricing, and whether or not TJ Spyke is deliberately backpedaling on his comments or is completely unaware of his conflicting statements.
I guess since there are limited answers to the actual thread subject, then there isn't necessarily a reason to try to keep on topic.
Stay classy, NWR forums.
LeahsDad: What they did at my Best Buy is there was a large vertical touch screen on one of the end caps. The sales clerk punch in Wii U and selected the black one (A customer could use this kiosk too) and it printed out a receipt. I took this receipt to a check stand and paid five dollars. I now have the pre-order.

LA Ca Leahsdad? What Best Buy did you try and shop at? Were you at the Wii launch party at Universal City Walk? Man if you didn't get one I know my idiot brother is out of luck. Told him to do it day one that ragamuffin.
It really is amazing how fast the preorders are going considering all the doom and gloom. Nov 17th even Broodwars will post in here desperately trying to buy one.
I hope this means that they have a HUGE supply of (black) systems in production and that Pre-Orders are just really really high, and not that they only planned for a limited launch and pre-orders have already exhausted that limited supply.

Yup, LA CA. The Best Buy in West Hollywood, next to the Target and the Gamestop (which was how I checked up on those stores in one go). I hate shopping, and especially hate going to stores. That's why I'm glad I found a place online that won't charge me sales tax.
And as much as I would love to go to these Midnight Launch parties (I really, really would), I've got 2 jobs, 2 kids and a a very non-gamer wife, so they're not an option for me. Aah....to be young and single again.

anyone hear anything if or when Gamestop will be taking pre-orders of the premium Wii U? I wanna upgrade asap.
Shaymin, if I had the extra money to do so, I'd get you a Wii U at launch, man. Totally. It really is amazing how fast the preorders are going considering all the doom and gloom. Nov 17th even Broodwars will post in here desperately trying to buy one.
I'll spare us all from a copy/paste from the NFR 4.5 thread and say this: No.
There's probably two regulars here who are opting out of preorder mania, myself and broodwars. One's financial, one's lack of games.

I called Gamestop yesterday. They've already ran out of pre-orders for the Premium Addition, and are quickly running out of the bare-bones Wii U preorders.
As far as I can tell, right now the only option is to preorder from Wal-Mart (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nintendo-Wii-U-Solution-Bundle-w-Customer-Choice-of-Wii-U-Game-and-Wii-Remote-Plus/21803986), but then you have to also purchase a game and Wii Remote with it (not a bad deal if you're needing both). I'm not certain how long this will last, given the fervor at the other locations for the Wii U.
Edit: One thing I would like to point, though, is that Wal-Mart is charging you the entire amount upfront when you place an order, no small pre-order fee, but all $450 (plus tax/shipping) for the Deluxe console + game + WiiMote.

Yup so is PC Richard and Sons.
The kiosk is a beautiful thing. It has different prices than the online store. You can order stuff that the store doesn't have at that moment and get it at the store price. Sometimes the price is much lower than online, so it's worth it. And it can preorder things for you too as if you are ordering online, but it comes to the store. I'd say this is probably the best way to preorder a system right now.LeahsDad: What they did at my Best Buy is there was a large vertical touch screen on one of the end caps. I'm going to have to go back tomorrow first thing in the morning.
I admit that I don't shop at Best Buy often, but I've never seen this kiosk thing. I'm in Los Angeles, CA. You're not writing from some Canadian Best Buy, are you? You know, where wishes are horses and all your dreams come true? I must be sure!
I'm opting out too. I'm planning to make a trip to my friends' place in Oregon sometime in 2013 and will pick one up then. I save on tax and get a 10% discount due to one of them working there. :) Of course, that won't stop me posting about the excitement I hear about. It really is amazing how fast the preorders are going considering all the doom and gloom. In the meantime, someone who actually wants the damn thing can enjoy it for Christmas instead.
Toys R Us is sold out of preorders.

Even if I wanted to buy a Wii U, though, pre-orders on the less-gimped Wii Us sold out days ago.
I still can't believe that demand is this high. None of the press was favorable around the Nintendo Direct. Which is leading me to suspect that there is a serious manufacturing problem. I think the 3DS shipped...what, 2 million units for launch for North America? I suspect the Wii U is a whole lot smaller...I bet 500,000 units available at launch, maybe even less.
I walked into Best Buy around 2PM today and preordered the Deluxe Set. I haven't decided to get one yet, but the preorder $5 and I'd rather be safe than sorry. I have about 2 months to figure it out. I'm still hoping there are some surprises for the launch window before the end of the year otherwise I'd pretty much be buying a new console for Mario.
we have no reason to suspect any additions where that time frame is concerned.Isn't the Tokyo Game Show in a few days? It's a long shot, but it's still there.
Actually you get an email when your pre-order is ready to pick up.I've gotten an email every time I order something from them online to pick up at the store. This one time, I did not. I think it has to do with whether you order online or in the store though.
Actually you get an email when your pre-order is ready to pick up.Are you preordering online or in the store? I don't recall even getting an email either and I think there 2 email addresses on my Reward Zone card.
I heard that GameStop was looking at stock nationwide to determine their cut-offs, suggesting that some stores might end up with less pre-orders than others, but the aggregate number in total meant that they couldn't risk taking any more pre-orders period, whether they had 7 preorders at that store or 70.Well we know some stores will get more than others. The amount of people in the area will dictate that most likely.
I think most stores restrict preorders to 1 per person. I would be pissed if I couldn't get one because they let someone do 6, maybe even give them some choice words

You know, I've never understood this line of thinking.
PS: Still waiting for your source.
Does anyone think it could reach a point where people start fighting for the Wii U?

BTW, Kytim, your avatar...um...I need not say, do I? I had to minimize that window really quickly when my daughter walked into the room. :-)

Thanks for helping out the little people UncleBob, you jerk!
By my girl, i meant my GF. Her daughter, who is 6yrs old.
That'll probably mess up corporate plans to open a presell program...
Back on topic, it looks like the only place you can get an 8GB Wii U (the only model left, of course) online without a bundle is Sears. Wal-Mart makes you buy a pro controller and a game, Toys R Us makes you buy Batman and Scribblenauts.
Where can you still buy a Wii U? The answer is... anywhere!
All you have to do is start lining up outside the store 12 hours before it opens on November 18th. My Wii camp out experience back in 2006 was great (besides the freezing weather), and I'll be doing it again this year with Wii U.
To be fair, I don't think u should be allowed to hold a spot for someone in line, so I can't blame her. The only exception I can understand is for bathroom breaks. No I understand that. But she was told that she was not getting a system and the number they had. She was waiting for 8 hours looking for something like that to happen. Everyone else who came was told that they wouldn't get one. She stayed specifically to ruin someone else's day if she possibly could. She did it to us on my wife's birthday. Kudos to her for getting a Wii at the expense of another person. Still doesn't mean I have to like it and I'm not dealing with something like that again.
Should be, mine tells me I can pick mine up as soon as 12:02am Nov. 18th, I heard Monday they've stopped taking any more orders. So Yay me! lolIf you did layaway, then you can't pick it up until you've paid it off. So if you pay it off by the 18th, you should be able to pick it up then.

Although the clerk said I couldn't pay it off, but had to leave a penny?
