Title: I just deleted my 20+hr Xenoblade Save...
Post by: JGfromSpace on August 28, 2012, 03:31:21 PM
Yeah so I just accidentally deleted my 20-plus hour Xenoblade save and just had to tell someone about it.
I had gotten up and walked away from the game while it was still on the save screen. When I returned to the TV, I must have mentally blacked out or something but, despite the obligatory "Are you sure?" prompt, I deleted the file instead of saving it.
Sort of devastated and contemplating starting the game over. I don't know if I can though. (So much grinding....)
Sorry, I just needed a platform to vent.

I had a similar problem happen to me when playing Metroid Other M and I ran into a glitch where a door wouldn't open. I waited for a few weeks hoping Nintendo would release a patch, but when it became obvious that wasn't going to happen I restarted the game over again and finally beat it. It does suck to lose your progress.

Man, that blows. However, I find that when playing through what I've already done, I tend to do things better than the first twice, and three times faster. You'll find that you'll get to the same spot as before with better stuff, more experience, and in at least half the time.
And least you didn't lose a 100+ hour save. :P

It's times like this when I wish life was just like Eternal Darkness.
Wait... I mean... No! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Man just glad it wasn't 70 hours. At least you will be smarter with your 2nd play through.
I forget which game I did that with but man did it piss me off. But what can you do but start over?

I accidentally erased my friends 150+ hour save of FFX. I felt horrible. But then he thanked me a week later because he started over and got things he missed during the first playthru that he wasn't able to go back and get. So he got to the same point in about 90 hours of play with more stuff.
Though I guess karma hit me because a different friend of mine erased my 60+ hour Suikoden IV save file by accident. When it happened, my blunder was the first thing that came to my mind and karma as well (though I'm not a believer of karma, the idea of what goes around, come around has merit). Buy it sort of worked out as well as I missed one of the 108 characters on the first playthru that I got on the second playthru.
So I guess you should now just look forward to your new playthru because it's likely to be more rewarding than the first.

I once put over 100 hours in to a Pokemon game. Ask me where that cartridge is now! Probably out with all those girls I could've been dating.

I was roughly 1/3 through Twilight Princess when I had to send back my launch Wii because it was defective and couldn't open the Wii Shop. Lost everything.

This is exactly why you guys need to back up your saves.

Wow, that sucks massive balls. I feel for you man. I've had that happen to me back in the SNES days with FF6 and mind you, this happened on my second playthrough. My first playthrough was from a loaned cartridge that I had to return before I could finish the game. Having to start all over again a third time was rough and rage inducing.
Usually when these things happen to me, I need to put that game and that incident way behind me, wait a couple of months until the burn has subsided, and then give it another shot. I love grinding in rpgs but they are the deathbringers in these situations.

My brother did the same thing on XC...except he was 50 hours in. He went back and started it over slowly doing all side quests and unlocked 2 Monado abilities that I don't have with my 90 hours of XC.

This is a good idea. I'm about 120 hours into Xenoblade and I think I'm closing in on the final moments of the game.
Unfortunately, the one save that I am most concerned about -- my SSBB save -- is locked to the system for some moronic reason. I don't mind Nintendo's decision to make the file incapable of playing on other Wii systems, but that should not come at the expense of being able to back up my file.

How do you do that?
Homebrew. I know people (like me) give it a bad rep, but you can use it simply to back up your saves with a certain program, and keep them on your SD card. If the file ever dies or gets deleted on your Wii, reupload from your SD card and your set. Of course, you may want to back them up once a week.

Nintendo better offer cloud saves on the Wii U. Those have saved me on my PS3 at least once.
