Well, Nintendo isn't really making money on 3DS hardware sales, so I imagine that there's still a nice profit margin on these.

Thanks to this (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=38473) thread, Nintendo knows Halbred will buy new revisions and is hoping there are a few others like him out there.

Maybe they had some extra red and blue plastic left from manufacturing the 3DS XLs :-p

They should have also done a white one and launched all three of them about a month ago to help commemorate the 4th of July.
