Title: EA Wii U Sports Announcements Coming in July
Post by: Kairon on June 28, 2012, 04:15:27 PM

Recent EA comments suggest the Wii U Madden game will abandon the "All-Play" stylings of the Wii versions for a more realistic simulation.

Electronic Arts will be ready to talk more about their Wii U sports games in just a couple of weeks, according to representatives from the publisher and recent event invites.

There will be a few events showing off Madden and FIFA on Wii U, both of which are known to be in development. A recent IGN tweet references one event that will be occur in mid-July. There will also be another event in early August, with all the information about the games embargoed until early August.

The only EA game that made an appearance at E3 was Mass Effect 3, which was featured in a sizzle reel during Nintendo's press conference. However, the company's Cam Weber recently stated that "whatever we release on the Wii U will not be a cartoony, dumbed-down, arcade football experience. It will be the real deal, HD simulation football."

While I'm excited about this, I'm more excited for Nintendo that I am about these titles.  I won't be buying any of them, but I'm glad that there is going to be a version for those people that are totally into them.

Sounds good.

Maybe there will be a Boom Blox 3? Ah, I wonder if EA will be streaming their summer showcase again. They did last year. Last year had a B-tier/E3-rejects feel to it, but I think that's part of the charm.

Makes perfect sense.  Why should EA develop two Madden games when they can make one and port it to all three systems?

If you ever want proof that the Wii hardware prohibited multiplatform releases and killed third party support the Madden series is a great example.  Why would EA make a special Wii exclusive Madden spin-off if they could have just ported the Xbox 360 version of Madden?  It just seems like a whole bunch of extra work for no reason.  And now that Nintendo has a system that would allow them to port the Xbox 360 version they're IMMEDIATELY jumping on it.

Boxing? SSX?

Give me an NHL game. We haven't had one on a Nintendo system since 2005.

EA should be able to utilize the dual game pad experience without without bogging down the frame rate too much, I would think.

There's only so much wireless bandwidth for streaming video, so with two gamepads the framerate immediately drops to 30fps.  It has nothing to do with processing power, it's bandwidth.

(And just between you and me, I wouldn't hold my breath for dual-gamepad support for a launch window game either, although this does seem like a good title for it.)

Sarcasm? Because the Wii had 4 NHL games (the most recent being NHL 2K11 in August 2010 and NHL Slapshot in September 2010).

So he wants a GOOD NHL game, a motion I will wholeheartedly second. (The NHL 2k games were "meh" at best, and Slapshot... let's not go there.)

Oh, you mean that NHL game EA released that was our Best Sports Game of 2010? http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/24248

When I first read this I thought that EA Wii U Sports was a new game, aka a clone of Wii Sports, until I read it more closely.  Personally, I'd be most interested in hearing about Tiger Woods, the ones on Wii are excellent, though it sucks they didn't make 2013 for Wii.  Also, I'm still waiting to see a good baseball game, after how fun (though shallow) the baseball in Wii Sports was I was sure we'd see some great baseball games on the Wii.  But 2K Sports has the exclusivity for baseball anyway, don't they?

I was referring to EA's NHL games, this being an EA-based thread. I knew about the 2K games, that just wasn't what I was talking about. Honestly, I completely forgot about NHL Slapshot, but that's not what I meant either. I want a real EA NHL sim for the Wii U.

NHL Slapshot hides a real sim underneath it's kid Gretzky exterior. Not a super deep sim, but there's like a real season mode and stuff in it. I played a season as the Edmonton Oilers because, for some fucked up reason, the wife freaking loves the Edmonton Oilers.

Well since they keep getting the number one pick they should have a pretty amazing team one of these years. And I'm guessing Slapshot doesn't have the kind of depth I'm looking for. I want the 360/PS3 game on the Wii U, with the ability to play it entirely on the GamePad. What I really want is a portable version, but I think the Wii U game is much more likely.

Oh, same here, J.P. I'd love for NHL '13 to drop on the 3DS, but I'd be perfectly content with it landing on the Wii U, then I could just plop back on my couch, and play the game straight on the GamePad. Would be perfect.

It's probably too much to expect this year, but I think it's reasonably likely we'll get it next year, assuming the system gets off to a decent start.

But Giroux won't be on the cover net year. :(

Hah, that's fine. I was rooting for Peks anyway. ;)

But yeah, definitely next year. Though... EA could very well surprise us at its event next month or in August...

I was actually rooting for Hartnell before he got knocked out. Giroux was my second choice.

cool, i suppose. Definitely couldn't hurt. Personally, i'm much more excited about NBA 2k13, but the Fifa games are always great too, so i'll probably pick that up for Wii U.
