Post by: Patchkid15 on June 27, 2012, 05:07:18 PM

This update exists, but you won't really notice anything new.

Nintendo released a system update yesterday for the Nintendo 3DS.

The update upgrades your system to version 4.2.0-9U. According to Nintendo's website the system update adds "Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience."

Well, it's good to see that Sony's not the only company who likely masks their anti-piracy firmware under the B.S. banner of "improved stability".

How do we know Nintendo isn't telling the truth, though? Maybe it really does improve stability and whatnot. I'm sure fighting piracy is probably a big chunk of it, but that doesn't mean there isn't some user beneficial stuff as well.

The password lock on the eShop for credit card purchases now allows you to use special characters.

I went into the Mii Plaza after I did the update because I noticed I had some coins built up and I somehow managed to have half a dozen puzzle pieces left after E3, and it was taking forever to load the puzzles. Even holding down the R button it was really slow and displaying loading icons for the puzzle images. I don't know if it's due to the update, but I've never seen it do that before. It certainly didn't enhance my user experience.

It blocked several flashcarts from working. It's an anti-piracy update.

I haven't noticed much but it is possible some lock up fixes and maybe something that makes the eShop open 0.07 seconds faster were included.  Either way death to pirates and all that so I don't mind either way.

So? That's a good thing. I don't mind homebrew games, but piracy is something everyone should be against and I am fine with updates that help for that. That is not likely the main intention of the update though.
