Title: Neversoft Signs Up For Call Of Duty

As if having Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer working around the clock on the COD franchise wasn't enough, now Activision is assigning yet another studio to the task of milking it to death.

Wait, didn't Neversoft run Tony Hawk into the ground and out of gaming relevance? How is this going to help?

Not only that, after they ran Tony Hawk into the ground they got switched to Guitar Hero, which they also ran into the ground.

If that's their track record, the future of the COD franchise looks to be in serious jeopardy.

It was more Activision running Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero into the ground more than Neversoft. We already know that Activision is going to eventually run CoD into the ground. It is going to hit franchise fatigue very soon.

I wish ALL military shooters would hit franchise fatigue...

That won't happen as long as people are still being born. As long as there are annoying pre-teens with parents who enable them to play violent "big boy" games they have no business playing there will always be a market for this kind of stuff. The irony is that even though these games are rated "Mature" the typical fan of these games is anything but. If you've ever played these games you can tell from the voices you hear on the headsets that these kids playing it are in elementary school or junior high at best.

People like to bash Nintendo as "kiddie", but I think most people would be shocked to find out what the median age of COD/Halo fans really is.

Neversoft more or less made the Tony Hawk franchise, so while it was run into the ground, please remember those games were fucking incredible at one point. And that's all thanks to Neversoft.

Then they were the unfortunate guys saddled with Guitar Hero. They did a good job, but there is a large gap between Harmonix and Neversoft in music games.

Sadly, I serious doubt Call of Duty will ever be run into the ground. While internet commenters be be done with them, they make up a small part of gamers as a whole. I know (and at least at my age, I'm the not only one) many people who plan on buying them til the day they die. I'm sure it's different for you oldies.

Oh, they're a good studio. The bad decisions weren't made by them. It's just kind of funny that it happened the way it did.

As for CoD, I echo the statements made on this week's RFN that the upcoming Black Ops 2 looks somewhat interesting, thanks to Treyarch taking chances and putting in extra effort when they didn't have to. If it's not going to go away, I appreciate that they care enough to want to keep it fresh. With Infinity Ward gutted it's probably more their series than anyone else's at this point, and they seem to be stepping up.

Actually, I like this idea.  IF, IF it means they can begin to allow the other developers to cycle through the franchise.  Bring new ideas to the series, and most importantly, give teams breaks so that they can every 2 years do their own original game idea...or at least work on something different.

To be fair, Activision is the one to be held responsible for milking these games to death. I still go back and play the old THPS games from time to time.
