Hmmm... the quality of the writing in that article just makes me a *little* skeptical.  I will refrain judgement until I see it on slashdot.  And I certainly can't wait to see what ATI is going to produce for Nintendo.

Yet once again, I am sure that all the Nintendo fanboys will be up in arms once more when it's announced that the Nintendo console will feature lower numbers on their specs all round, but better architecture.  (once more).    Personally though, if Nintendo makes a new GameCube with higher numbers on everything, I would be happy as a pig in... crap.

just the fact that it was mentioned gets my spine tingling with fanboy-ish anticipation on how how the XBox 2 pans out. Hahaha!
I hear Sony's making a new version of the PS2 to make LAN stuff outta the box. This'll be the second time they've done a remake. I mean, i can't believe they're still selling PSOnes.

That article says that xbox 2 is doomed and nintendo will be number one in the console wars next year.

The Xbox2 isn't going to go down easily, that's for sure. It has been Microsoft's intent to use the first Xbox as a foundation for the Xbox 2 ever since they entered the videogame industry. The price drops of the first Xbox, along with the appealing Xbox Live plan, has given the system a userbase of millions. But there is no way the first Xbox would have been able to catch up with Sony's PS2. That is what the Xbox 2 is for. You can bet that Microsoft will use its resources to squash the PS3, or at least they will try.

But what do I care? I don't plan on getting either system.

if the nextbox is simply a step up, that will probably be a strength for it... developers will already have a grasp on the system and can do more tweaks to their engines...   ps3 and the n5 if they use a whole new layout then devlopers will have to spend time getting used to the system and figuring out the highs and lows

I bet developers will use current Gamecube dev kits for the launch titles of the next Nintendo system. After all, Nintendo seems to want to stick with their philosophy of "strictly games", so, like the Xbox 2, the next system may be nothing more than a GCN upgrade, to build upon the current userbase. Works for me.

Remember people predicting that the Xbox was doomed from the start a few years back.  The prognosticators were not quite accurate. It is no more doomed than the Gamecube as worldwide sales are fairly equal between the two.  (It appears that Gamecube is only slightly ahead)
