Today during Nintendo's E3 press conference, Shigeru Miyamoto opened the presentation with the first showing of the much anticipated Pikmin 3. This is the first time Nintendo has spoken of the game in a meaningful way since last year's E3, where Miyamoto originally confirmed that Pikmin 3 had moved to Wii U.

New features mentioned include: HD visuals (of course), a new Pikmin type which can break hard objects without having to blow itself up, a flying Pikmin, and Pikmin can now build bridges, the game features up to four leaders, a challenge mode with a time limit.

The Wii U GamePad is used to give the player an overhead view of the map. This helps with jumping around between various groups of Pikmin. Another feature of the game is that you can record a complete replay of your playthrough, this makes seeing ways to do better easier.

Easily my most anticipated Wii U title after that impressive showing. The HD visuals bring the original Pikmin aesthetic to life, the use of the GamePad seems intelligent and I am fascinated by the potential for new environmental puzzles, now that you've got 4 characters under your control.

Can't wait for your impressions, guys.

New Pikmin that can build bridges? I haven't seen the E3 video to see what you mean, but in the original game any Pikmin could build bridges. You needed to do it so non-blue Pikmin could cross across water.

Anyways, I love both Pikmin games so I know I will get this one too.
