Title: Anyone in the market for a modded (original) XBox?
Post by: BranDonk Kong on May 12, 2012, 12:28:46 AM
What you do with it is up to you, but I set them up with XBMC as the dashboard and some vital apps included, but nothing that has anything to do with piracy. They make amazing upscaling DVD players (even over component - 1080i over component on an XBox looks way better than the XBox 360 or PS3 upscaling over HDMI, I **** you not) too.
Anyway...I have like 17 of them. I don't have controllers or cables or anything like that, and a decent knowledge of softmodded (and TSOP flashed when I can) XBox. I do upgrade the HDDs to something like 80GB or 100GB, basically whatever I can find around the shop.
I'll send them anywhere in the US for $40 shipped via FedEx. No warranty, but I do open them and replace the drive belts, and clean or replace the laser if necessary, and they are all in nice shape.
If this is out of place (or not allowed), please feel free to close/delete this topic and put me in time out. I just started getting back into modding these things (first time in like 6 years)...and it turns out we had a **** ton of old XBox consoles at the shop.

I hope you sell them, and hopefully the mods don't shut this thread down (I don't see why they would, as long as you aren't condoning piracy). You may want to try this on ebay or craigslist or something as well.
I was a bit interested in having an Xbox and modding it with Linux back in the day when the original Xbox was current. But I have to say with as outdated as it is right now I'm not really interested anymore.

It's outdated as all get out, but they make media center/retro consoles. I only wish there was a way to make them do 1080p over component (or VGA), even though they lack the power to play decent HD video (for the most part). I am going to put them on craigslist too...hopefully I can score some controllers and A/V cables too.

I believe so, but not 100% certain. You can also use a program to change it from NTSC to PAL output.

Yes, they do play import original discs.

Nice. I might even get one for myself as well. I'll contact you after I get some money in my U.S. account.

If you put a larger HDD in, then you can also just rip those imports right to it and play them without the disc. I'm trying to remember how the flash the TSOP on these things, that way if the HDD ever crashes or anything it's no big deal since the console is completely opened up.

If I had a bit more money right now I'd do this. Never hurts to have an extra media center device around, and ever since playing it at PAX it became one of my lifelong goals to own Steel Battalion, and that would require an original Xbox.
