Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth, a motion-controlled action game, is coming to Wii U this year, according to The Washington Post.
Ubisoft recently filed a trademark for Avengers: Battle for Earth, but at the time no game announcement was made. A few days later, we have learned that the game is coming to Nintendo's upcoming console, the Wii U, and also Kinect.
While Battle for Earth will focus on Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and The Hulk, more than 20 characters from the Marvel universe will be present in the title, which is actually based on the Secret Invasion comic series and not the movie. In the game, The Avengers will be fighting off the genetically altered Skrull aliens.
Ubisoft’s vice president of sales Tony Key said "The idea that we’re making a motion-control version of ‘The Avengers’ is a unique proposition if you compare that to superhero games of the past. This is the perfect type of game for that because these characters are very action oriented. They’re always fighting and throwing things."
More information is set to be revealed on the game at this years E3 which is only a few weeks away. Look forward to more coverage of the game during E3 2012.
This announcement is interesting for a few reasons.I'm with you on this one. The most interesting part is that it is specifically Kinect and Wii U. This doesn't sound like a game that wouldn't go to every platform unless it couldn't. Kinect Tech for Wii U would be an interesting development, but may be to much in the way of inputs.
One - it's a new Wii U announcement... actual Wii U games being announced is rather rare. I can only assume this announcement was made with Nintendo's blessing.
Two - it's being released for the 360/Kinect and Wii U. Specific mention is made of "gesture controls". Now, I love me some Wii, but let's face it - Kinect is pretty darn awesome and steps above the Wii in the "gesture controls" department. Combined with the fact that this was NOT announced for the PS3, it leads me to believe that the Wii U has "gesture control" possibilities more on par with Kinect and less like Move/Wii controls.
Now, combine these two - Wii U is > or = Kinect and this was secretly announced with Nintendo's blessing...
... this is the start of a slow buildup of "leaks" leading into E3.
