Title: Cave Story being remade AGAIN as an eShop game

According to an article posted on GoNintendo (http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=176111), a recent issue of Nintendo Power has details on yet another remake of Cave Story.
Cave Story is being remade for the 3DS eShop, with added 3D layers, increased resolution to fill up the 3DS' screen, and extra modes / playable characters. The DSiWare game may be pulled from the eShop once the new game is released.

You do realize that they source this site? And that they got it wrong-- it's not a DSiWare remake, if anything, it's a port of Cave Story+ (Steam).

You know there's only one guy working on GoNintendo: Kevin Cassidy (Rawmeat Cowboy / RMC). He writes all the articles and posts all the stories that people send in.
Anyways, thanks for the updated info. And the DSiWare version might still be removed from the eShop, since there's no point in having 2 Cave Story games on the eShop.

No, he doesn't. There are a few other people who write, such as Aaron Hoffmann.

I just did a Google search. Aaron Hoffman ("Cortjezter") runs the GoNintendo forums, and he sometimes posts on Wednesdays. But the day-to-day articles are posted by Kevin Cassidy ("Rawmeat Cowboy")

Yes, I run into them while covering events. cortjezter is Aaron Hoffmann.

Well yeah, now I know that from doing a Google search. Anyways, the point of my thread is about Cave Story. Thanks for pointing out how misinformed I was concerning the people at GoNintendo. :)

Ya know, if this game was any less awesome than it is, I'd be annoyed by the constant re-releases. Seeing as it is really awesome, I'll tolerate at least one more re-release.
But seriously. Gimme a sequel, Nicalis.

Don't ask Nicalis for a sequel. They only ported the game to consoles. "Pixel" is the true brains behind Cave Story.

Don't ask Nicalis for a sequel. They only ported the game to consoles. "Pixel" is the true brains behind Cave Story.
Nicalis did develop the original content for it though, and they actually own the rights to the game (at least the trademark for the name). Daisuke Amaya has pretty much not touched it since he created the freeware version back in 2004.

That's not exactly true. He played a pretty big role overseeing the new ones, at least approving stuff, if not creating it.

One of my favorite gaming experiences, Post SNES (beating Hell guns-a-blazin' with the witches narrative echoing in my head still stands out to me). Nicalis has done a wonderful thing in working with Pixel to bring his charming game to multiple platforms. Their initial go-to-market strategy was a win-win winner...but following this most recent announcement I am also starting to get that milkin' feeling. Maybe this is just residual ill-feelings due to Cave Story 3D, a game that I feel did NOT offer fair value. I hope this can serve as the ultimate version of Cave Story (all the bonus modes + 3D visuals) and admittedly, if I had a 3DS, it would be a sure purchase.

Unfortunately, they already said they can't fit all the music and graphics in from the Steam version, so I guess there's still no "ultimate" version.
