I guess it's time to get started, now that I actually have an entire list in front of me. I'll probably work on knocking out the games that I'm already at the end of first. After that, any suggestions of what I should tackle next?

At the very least play these out of that.
Baten Kaitos Super Mario Bros. 2 Zelda 2 Sonic 2 Donkey Kong '94 Kingdom Hearts II Super Mario Sunshine Super Monkey Ball Tales of Symphonia Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door Super Mario 3D Land Sonic and the Secret Rings
The last one will infuriate you until you get a bit of the upgrades and step away from it a little. It will click and things will be cool then.

But really, just take them one at a time. Start with games that you really want to play.

When i was a kid my parents would never buy me any games, i had to save up my pennies on paper routes and lawn mowing for years to buy my consoles and then a few more years for a new game. Even though my parents weren't using their money to buy me games they still never let me buy a new game until I had beaten every game i had.
and even though i have enough money to be at risk for lindemann syndrome that practice had been beaten into my psyche to this very day. Only now do i apreciate what my parents did for me back then.

I think it's official. I have a problem. In the past 4 months or so, my backlog has increased to a rather overwhelming 97 games, spread across 15 consoles.
Wow, that's nuts. Makes me feel better about my own buying habits... or at least recent buying habits.
Not sure what you should play next (depends on personal preference) but my favorites from that list are:
Final Fantasy 3/6 House of the Dead 2 Donkey Kong '94 Beyond Good and Evil Tales of Symphonia Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones

If we're talking games I've never played I have a small amount of mostly retro games. I don't really get to choose when a retro game purchase takes place. I just check out my favourite used videogame store once a week or so and if something I've been looking for pops up, I buy it. So I got both Shining Force and Phantasy Star IV about a week apart and due to the length of those games I have yet to have sat down and played either one. They're RPGs. It isn't like a 10 minute quick gaming session is going to work. I have to pick a time where I've got a few hours (and those times often go to new games). My NES is on the fritz so any NES games I've bought lately have remained unplayed. I ordered a replacement connector but it seems to have been lost in the mail and I've emailed the store about it. I have 2 or 3 NES titles I have bought since then and I have not played them because I currently can't.
I have only one current title unplayed: Sin & Punishment for the Wii. The reason it is unplayed is that I got Skyward Sword for my birthday in December and then got S&P and Kirby's Epic Yarn for Christmas (both were titles I wanted but had put off until finding them cheap). I haven't beaten Skyward Sword yet and I've only played a bit of Kirby and S&P has not yet had a chance to be played. For Wii time Zelda gets priority.
What I have noticed is that when it comes to current titles this is not an issue. If I find I don't have much free time and there is a game I'm currently into I just won't buy the next new title I want until later. I don't however have a choice with gifts and with retro games if I pass up on one I want I might never see another copy for years. It's easy when I have complete control of when I get the game but is otherwise hard. S&P is the first time EVER that a new game has sat on my shelf this long without being played. Of course it will probably remain unplayed for one reason: Xenoblade. With my backlog you would figure this would be a lousy time to get a new Wii game but when Xenoblade was announced it didn't seem like something I could put off and be able to find easily a few months later. Again, I don't really have control over the timing of the purchase.
I have noticed that when people share their backlogs Atlus games are common and that makes sense. The assumption is that an Atlas game will become rare very quickly so one has to get it when the opportunity comes up, even if they currently don't have time to play it.
Now if we want to talk backlogs of games I have not completed, ****, that list is huge. I own enough games I haven't beaten yet that I probably could never buy another videogame again and still have enough newish videogame content to satisfy me. Someday I'll probably have a wife who will find this thread and throw that statement back in my face. :)

To be clear (gonna attempt to defend this poorly), I haven't bought all these games individually. I buy mostly in bulk off eBay, which is my main problem. For example, a box just arrived at my house with 31 ps2 games, some of which are listed above. So many of these games are RPGs though. That's my main concern, I think. I should at least cross metroid fusion off the list by this evening.

If i were you what i would do is go from shortest to longest game, that will let you make progress relatively quickly

Metroid Fusion:
This was basically my first long-term experience with a 2D Metroid game (beat Metroid Prime a few months back), and I definitely enjoyed it. The only spots where it became frustratingly difficult were the final boss sequence and the Space-Jump boss. Glad that my 3DS came with all the ambassador games already installed, so I could get a chance to play this on something without a keyboard. Looking forward to getting around to the other games in the series here soon.

Quote
Geist (Final Stage) Luigi's Mansion (Final Boss)
looks like both of these are low hanging fruit, you can probably cross both of these off your list today depending on how much time you have
and the original super mario bros can be beaten in about 10 minutes if you just care about completeing it and not playing all of the worlds.

I think I'll hit those three within the next day or two while not working my way through Kingdom Hearts 2.

Making pretty good progress through Kingdom Hearts 2 (Just got to Pride Lands, which means I'm almost done with going through every world the first time through).
Unfortunately, I now have to add to my backlog. Fallout 1 is free for 48 hours, and seeing as I've never played it, I snatched it up. Because it's FREE. So, yeah, one more game on the pile. And so we go.
