Title: Dear Nintendo: 3DS Demo Play Limit idea
Post by: UncleBob on March 17, 2012, 07:08:00 PM
In the latest in my series of forum posts where I pretend someone from Nintendo A) Visits the forum B) Has any real influence on anything and C) Cares what I have to say...

Dear Nintendo,

In theory, I don't mind the limit on 3DS Demo plays.  Not really a huge deal - however, I'd like to suggest a minor tweak - how about, whenever I play the game that the demo is for (for example, let's say I put the cart version of Resident Evil in), the play counter will reset?

Sure, there's a minor potential for abuse, but the ability to show off games to friends/family without fear of running out of demo plays far outweighs the risk of the possibilities of abuse from this method.

So, there's my idea.  It's yours, for free.  But you can mail me a bunch of Kid Icarus cards, if you'd like.

That's too good of an idea, and unfortunately I don't work for Nintendo.

Provide a demo mode in games and Single Cart Demos.  That be cool.

The down side with this is that it requires me to have the game card with me though. :(

Wow, really? If you have the game card, why not, I don't know, have them play your game on a different save file?

And how did you burn through 30 play times? I needed to play it once to know I like it and I'll buy it down the road. If you used it 30x, then WOW.

...  Seriously, it's a portable system. I can store three carts with the case and a 4th in the system.  One of those is *always* NSMB and, lately, MK7. Usually have a puzzle game of some sort (Picross, CrossworDS, etc.).  Then, whatever game I'm playing through.

As per the second half of that, not all game demos have a 30-play limit.

This UncleBob we're talking about here. Some people say, "Nintendo is the air I breathe," but Bob literally has a Nintendo branded oxygen tank.

I will laugh if UncleBob produces a picture of an Air Tank that looks like Fludd.

Well, the play limit thing worked for me.  My daughter burned through the 10 or so plays for Nintendogs + Cats, so now I have to buy the stupid thing.  Really don't want to.

You know till you said that, it never really clicked in my mind why they have the play limit.  Suddenly it just clicked in my head from your example.  I have known plenty of children that are that way, and if you give them a restriction.  It just almost reinforces the want of the thing.
