Title: Sonic the hedgehog 4 episode 2
Post by: Caterkiller on February 23, 2012, 12:59:10 PM
I'm certain we will get this on Wii-U eventually. But for now it's best placed here.

I enjoyed episode 1 unlike most, but it does stand that the game tried to be too much of a Sonic 1 or 2. Similar environments all old enemies and so on.

This new game looks nice, and looks to have some very fun co-op additions. The environments looks pretty fresh and well it just looks like more care has been taken to make this game.

All I have been begging for for years is some Sonic and Tails co-op action. Finally it returns and it looks like it's being utilized pretty well.

I'd love to see this and (a version of Episode 1 with fixed momentum) on the 3DS eShop.

Did Sonic the Hedgehog 1's physics play like Sonic 4? I remember playing Sonic 1 and distinctly remember how slow Sonic ran. He could go super fast in a ball, or if you hit some bumper and let go of the control pad he would just fly, but the moment you hit the pad something would take affect and he would go a slower speed. Sonic 2 and up changed those physics.

Sonic 1 was slower than 2 or 3, but I don't think it was as slow as Episode 1 of Sonic 4. Either way, it wasn't a good aspect of the original to emulate.

Sonic 2 is the Pinnacle 2D Sonic.  If you are going to Emulate any of them that's the one.

Control-wise, I completely agree.

I do think the most memorable music comes from the original game,  and the level design award goes to 3 (although Casino Night Zone in 2 is fantastic).

I don't recall the controls being too different between Sonic 2 and Sonic 3? Sonic 1 was certainly slower, but at least it didn't feel as "floaty" as Sonic 4. The first Sonic game also had a couple of level themes that I believe were pretty unique and didn't make an appearance... not like the Casino/Carnival levels that keep cropping up.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 + Sonic and Knuckles is about as good as the series gets, though. :)
