Title: Circle Pad Pro Heading to GameStop Exclusively
Post by: Patchkid15 on December 13, 2011, 12:49:55 PM

Not every retailer is getting Nintendo's newest 3DS attachment.

In a press release detailing Nintendo's early 2012 software lineup, it was revealed that the Circle Pad Pro will be sold exclusively through GameStop.

Releasing on February 7, the Circle Pad Pro will available at both GameStop's locations and its website. It is releasing alongside Resident Evil Revelations, one of the games utilizing the device. Currently it is listed at a suggested retail price of $19.99.

This must be part of that Xenoblade deal.

Gamestop is determined to make a profit on Nintendo while trying to earn the good will of the core Nintendo gamer.

So it's twice the anticipated price AND it can only be purchased at GameStop?  Way to go Nintendo.  Morons.

You can't be mad at the price because they never said anything about it, there were only rumors.

Besides, it's just an optional add-on and will not be required for any game (which is why I think anybody expecting the next revision of the 3DS to include it should not get their hopes up).

20 Bucks GS Exclusive.  Um... No Thank You.

Interest in this peripheral down to near Zero.
NoA F-You Points increased by 10.

Even if the right slide pad remains optional for the entirety of the 3DS'sesses life, any revision will likely include it built in. Nintendo wouldn't build a different sized add-on for each revision when it would be cheaper for them to just make it part of the revision itself and leave it up to developers to support it or not.

Anyway, I'd only buy a Control Pad Pro if it came packed with a game I wanted and that was the only way I could get the game, similar to how Wii Sports Resort was originally sold. I still don't have Resort so that's probably a good indication of how acquiring a CPP is going to play out.

When Nintendo was prototyping the 3DS, they made a system with plug-in interchangeable controls. I wonder if they'd consider doing that for retail.

I agree with Adrock: I'll buy when it's packed in with a game that I really want and not a moment sooner. When my copy of RE:Revelations arrives I will not be running out to grab one of these peripherals, regardless of how much better it might make the game play.

However, this bears repeating:

20 Bucks GS Exclusive.  Um... No Thank You.

Interest in this peripheral down to near Zero.
NoA F-You Points increased by 10.

Interest in buying a Wii U at this point is also nearly zero given the consistent state of uncertainty and complete lack of customer confidence that NoA has established in 2011.  F-You Points indeed...

Is anyone who was *excited* for the CPP actually disappointed in this news?

Scratch that - was anyone ever excited for the CPP?

Eh, not sure if its only europe, but isnt RE:R coming packaged with the CPP?
So this could mean that the CPP is being sold in Gamestop only but all the other shops will have the RE:R with CPP included?

Anyway, wonder if NoE will do what is being said here too..

You could just order it online and have GS ship it to you in the mail.  Just saying.

Interesting. GameStop must really be pursuing this exclusivity stuff. I imagine that this device will be exclusive only for a limited time, as once more games start using it I think it'll have a more wide-spread release.

Really, I think this is an indication that Nintendo doesn't intend for it to be widely used, and lends more credence to the idea that they just slapped it together because Capcom wanted it for Monster Hunter.

EDIT: Also, no one should be surprised that it costs $20. If you actually thought there was any chance it would be $10 like the rumor said you have no one to blame for your disappointment but yourself.

You know this is no place for that kind of logic!

Correct. This is all the proof you need that a second slide pad wont be included whenever they end up releasing a revision. I mean, if you really believe every word of that 01.net story, Nintendo supposedly believes that the lack of a second analog stick was the reason for the lackluster 3DS sales. Does this look like they're desperate to get this addon into every 3DS owner's hands? It was made just for Monster Hunter, just like the Classic Controller Pro was made just for Monster Hunter.

It's good to see that this forum is becoming a refuge for GoHobo rejects.

I don't own a 3DS so I don't know why I care but this just seems like Nintendo setting another product up to fail.

Correct. This is all the proof you need that a second slide pad wont be included whenever they end up releasing a revision.
As I said earlier, it's cheaper for Nintendo to include it in a revision. Otherwise, they would need to make a Circle Pad Pro Plus (or whatever it'd be called) for the revision. I doubt Nintendo is going to go out of their way and spend more money just to show people that it's only for select games. It makes more sense for Nintendo to add probably less than $1 to manufacturing costs to build it into the unit and have a lonely, unused right slide pad for most games. Done and done. And if a 3rd party was able to force Nintendo to release the peripheral, I'm sure they could convince them to have it built in future revisions.

I'm okay either way. I don't plan on buying the add-on. I'm just pointing out that there are no positives in not including it in a revision. It might as well be there. As far as I know, not a single 1st party title supports the peripheral and most games will likely not require it by having a (probably shittier) single slide pad control mode.
