Come play online with the Nintendo World Report community this Saturday evening.

Nintendo World Report is hosting a Wi-Fi event for Mario Kart 7 this Saturday, December 10 at 9 p.m. EST.

To participate, make sure to add Nintendo World Report's Community Codes. For Battle Mode it's 52-8882-2728-4207, and for Grand Prix it's 15-7711-2023-1792.

You can also add your individual 3DS system friend code to this forum thread and add other NWR readers and staff (make sure to tell them via personal message that you added them so they can add you back).

As I said in the forum thread, we're hoping to make these events a more regular occurrence, for this and other games. Don't worry if you can't make it to this one, as it should be the first of many.

Damn, I need to get my practice in before this. I've played a few games with Greg the past couple of days and he kicked my butt! Is this race or battle?

Edit: Nevermind! I should have known it was the same group the was posted in another thread. 'Balloon Battle' it is then!

This sounds cool. I already added the code to my game, (before I even read this article), so I'm good to go if I am available to play. It'd be great if it was a regular occurrence like it is hoped to be. (I would tend to think that it would be a once a month thing if it does.) But so far, (aside from a few drawbacks like not being able to set up races that aren't in the GP, unless it's unlocked later because I loved being able to do that), the game is great thus far. I'm glad I got it.

Just an FYI - We're going to make another community for racing, too, and if anyone wants to come up with any other fun variants, we can make more communities as well.

Good to hear. I don't know why but I only liked the battle mode in MK64. Is there any limit to how many communities you can be in?

How about one with specific conditions, like Mii only characters and/or specific karts? That could put an interesting twist on it.

Feel free to start your own communities with whatever rules you like. We started a thread in the Handheld Discussion section of the forums specifically for community codes, so you can post them there with a description of the rules.

(If anyone is interested), my friend code is 3351-4054-7089. This way we can race in Mario Kart 7 and play other games too. (May take me a day or two to approve ya but if I see a "friend request" I will most likely add ya. I don't have anyone on it right now so I figured this may get me a few people to add to it.)

I just saw this after I made a NWR racing community. I posted the code in the Community Code thread, use it if you like. I didn't mean to jump the shark though.

Is it just taking a long time? That's what it's doing for me, and I think it does that because there are relatively few of us so the wait for an open race is longer than it would be for a random match.

EDIT: Now I got a connection error that booted me to the main menu. I still think it may be what I said.

EDIT 2: Connected on the third try, but I seem to be in a room with no one else. Somebody come play with me please. :)

The wait to join a race is very long. The few races I was in were fun, but I'm done for tonight. If you ever see me online feel free to join me for a few races.

I kept going back and forth between GP and Battle, never got disconnected once. Glad Nintendo fixed my wireless.

Now who the devil is Shy C? Beat me bad in battle mode!

Or better yet, voice chat for those that want to use it and free form text input.  All communication could be locked down by parental controls, if needed.

Thank you to everyone who came out and played with us tonight. According to the game there were 10 people in the Grand Prix community for a lot of the night, so that's pretty good for a week after release. I and a couple other people had some technical issues, but all in all I think we had a pretty successful event.

Feel free to make any comments or suggestions about tonight's event here. What did you like, and what do you think we could improve upon in the future?

Maybe we can bring in a normal chat component via NWR chat. It would make grouping up larger games better since we can communicate to people in game so we can get ETAs.

I also couldn't figure out how to tell the last person I was playing against that it was my last game and I had to go since we never made it back to a chat lobby, so NWR Chat being active at the same time would be good..

The universal translator is a useful tool, but Nintendo being Nintendo, crippled the system out of misplaced, disproportional fear.

It was a shame you had to bug out BlacknMild2k1, it was a pretty sweet game. I would love to setup voice/smack chat in the side, but one step at a time. FC: 3222-5727-4873. PM me so I can counter add.

I played 2 games with you & Johnnyboy, but then my connection dropped. :(

Then I jumped back in and got a game with someone by the name of "Brian" I think, and I played 2 more, but I had to go after that. How do you communicate that  with the person you are playing with?
I felt bad just dropping out of the game when it kept auto-entering me into the next match as my only options were to press the "Home" button to exit the game or select ok to go to the next match.

You "don't" communicate with the person your playing with.

There is no way in-game to sync groups up so you can have a bigger game. It's luck of the draw. Maybe there is something the in game friends list that might help you re-join a dropped game, but as it stands, it's messy. Once you're playing it's pretty good, even when playing with people on the other side of the world, but the organizational aspect has a lot left to be desired. It's an ok system if you want to have massive random games or small group of friends that know each other explicitly, but whatever is in between gets lost like what happened on Wi-Fi night.

There were about 3 groups playing battle, but the games never got bigger than 4 people. NWR chat is going to be a must for our current group size.

And this is why I hope Nintendo has Valve's Steamworks Dept. on a direct line for Wii U online.

Waiting room lobbies with text and voice chat, friendlist invites to join your room or game, ingame chat either text or voice. Something. I need to be able to communitcate with the people I'm playing with in some manner, even if they just expand the pre-defined text list. And they should drop you back into a lobby inbetween matches so you can wait for more people or change the game you're playing or adjust your options or something.

Maybe I should add this to the Online Network thread...
