Title: Nintendo Trademarks 'Circle Pad Pro'
Post by: Crimm on October 25, 2011, 11:09:09 PM

The trademark indicates the likely name for the 3DS add-on in western markets.

Nintendo has registered two trademarks pertaining to their Circle Pad add-on for the 3DS: "Circle Pad Pro" and the Japanese language phrase for "Slide Pad Expansion."

The shell, which adds not only a second Circle Pad but also a second set of shoulder buttons to the 3DS, has thus far only been officially announced for release in Japan. It is worth noting that "Circle Pad" is the name for the analog control on the 3DS outside of Japan. In Japan the 3DS analog control is called the Slide Pad.

The accessory will go on sale in Japan along with Monster Hunter 3G on December 10. In an interesting parallel, this is the second time Nintendo has used the Pro moniker for a device that adds analog control and shoulder buttons. The first, the Classic Controller Pro, launched with Monster Hunter Tri; 3G is a 3DS port of the Wii title.

Despite Nintendo not announcing any release details for the device outside of Japan, Capcom has indicated that the 3DS add-on will be available in America when they release Resident Evil: Revelations early next year.

I actually like this little attachment. What makes it so different from, say, the Wii Nunchuck?
(other than the fact that it's a little late)

People who have held it in their hands say it is comfortable and light. Dunno about comfort when reaching the face buttons, but my thumbs are pretty long as they are, so it may not be a problem for me. While the added size may make it look non-portable, it's still about the size of what the Vita plans to be. A sleeve to go over the whole thing might be nice to have, as I currently take my 3DS everywhere with me.

My only problem is that I'm currently using the Nyko PP+.

Yeah, I doubt Nyko is thrilled.

We have some impressions (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/impressions/27895) for the Circle Pad Pro (as I will now call it) from TGS.

I can see that they are matching the naming of the Classic Controller Pro with Circle Pad Pro.

The 3DS CPP!

Doesn't quite have a great ring to it but no matter.
