Title: Thinking about Getting 1 Wii Madden.
Post by: Ceric on July 20, 2011, 11:58:20 AM
Preface:  I’m not a big Sports game gamer.  I admit I prefer the more arcade styles when I do play sports games like NFL Blitz and NBA Jam.  That being said the recent debates have got me interested in Madden for Wii simply because it’s not this uber-complex Sim.  I only want to buy one and cheap be nice so What is the Best Version?  What differentiates them, especially controls wise?  Being not a Sports Guy, roster means next to nothing to me.  They could all be Chipmunks for what I care.

Meet the Contenders:
Madden NFL 07 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/game/11361)  (Mike Garmin (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/staff/97) | 7 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/12629))
Madden NFL 08 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/game/13342) (Mike Thomsen (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/staff/10061) | 6.5 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/14247))
 Madden NFL '09 All-Play (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/game/15859) (Neal Ronaghan (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/staff/9966) | 8 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/16587))
Madden NFL 10 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/game/18281) ( Neal Ronaghan (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/staff/9966) | 9 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/19789))
Madden NFL 11 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/game/23238) (Neal Ronaghan (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/staff/9966) | 8 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/23841))
Madden NFL 12 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/game/26905) (Not Out Yet)

So from reading the reviews posted here, I’m not branching out for discussion reasons, it seems Madden NFL 10 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/19789) would best fit my needs because it sounds like 11 tries to enhance 10 but end up muddling things.  Though 12 may come and address all those.

I thought we might have a pro and con on these for my type of playing style.  I think the pointer passing could be cool.

If you want a Madden game, then you need to buy a different console. There are three Madden games for the Wii, and then there are three "My First Football Game" games for the Wii. If you insist on getting any of them, then Madden '09 is the winner, but at the same time it's the loser just because of the box art.

I would argue that all the Madden games on Wii are good, but they've simplified the controls too much over the years. I would also say '09 is the best one on Wii in terms of controls.

Has anyone played Madden on Wii with the Wii motion controls. Is it any good or is it just plain gimmicky?

I think I speak for myself and our esteemed director Neal Ronaghan when I say that the Wii Madden games, especially the last couple years' editions, are very good. The controls work well, including a few awesome bits that wouldn't be possible on the other platforms.

Unless you need some of the super-hardcore features in Franchise mode, or are completely against motion control (and I think the upcoming version even includes Classic Controller support), it's a really good version of Madden.

Madden 10, by far. I'd strongly discourage anything earlier, as they are PS2 ports with motion controls. Madden 11 is good, but Madden 10 is the strongest single game.
