Title: Sega Announces New Shining Force....
Post by: Darc Requiem on May 08, 2003, 05:06:26 PM
I was perusing the web as usual when I came across the news that Sega has anounced a new Shining Force game. Now it didn't say which console it was for but I know that Shining Force was a product of Sonic Team and Camelot. That being the case.....doesn't it have to be produced for GC. Camelot hasn't made a game that wasn't for Nintendo in quite sometime, can Sega do a Shining Force without them? I hope not......if they need Camelot then I think the new Shining Force game would have to be GC. I saw this story at the Magic Box....here is the linkThe Magic Box

Jesus, I hope so- Shining Force is one of my favorite RPG series ever. I don't think Sega is obligated to release the next Shining Force for the Cube, but I certainly hope they do, in collaboration with Camelot.

Camelot is pretty much a second party and Sonic Team really wants to be an exclusive developer and only make non GCN games when Sega forces them too... So that counts for something.

If so, expect it to rock just as much as the kick-arse Golden Sun games do. Shining Force 3 on the Saturn totally rocked.

Personally, my money is on GBA, but it's entirely possible it could come for GCN as well.

I hope this will be an entire game, I want the whole thing unlike Shinning Force three when we only got 1 disc out of 3. Sega should stick with they're guns and not just screw people who have anticipated such great games.
And I want to see alot more support for Nintendo, Sega said E3 would be big, I have yet to see that. If I was Sonic Team and Sega was about to go the way of the dodo I would become 2nd party to Nintendo.

Sonic Team is just development division of Sega, they are owned by Sega, so unless Sega sold Sonic Team to Nintendo, along with whatever game rights Sonic team wanted to keep (you can bet Sega wouldn't let go of Sonic and many others) don't expect anything along those lines. Much like Square working with Brownie Brown (made up of many former Square employees that worked on Mana games) it would seem easy to assume Sega would want to work with Camelot, and thus bring the game to Gamecube or GBA. But you have to factor in how much more money could be made from putting it on PS2. I certainly hope it's on Cube though, I prefer playing my Cube over my PS2 any and all chances I can get, it just feels better. In fact, I wouldn't even want a new game, they can just update Shining Force 3 and send it over, since there were Three episodes to the game, and we only got one here in the US on saturn, it would be nice to finally be able to finish it all in cohierent english. They can always toss in other shining games. In fact, just making a Shining Collection. Including the Genesis and Gamegear ones, as well as games like Shining the Holy Ark, and I'd be happy.
Maybe other people don't think much of collection disc, but I love them. You know once Sonic Adventure DX releases with its gamegear games in it, that almost every sonic game would be available on Gamecube (not including those PC school house titles). Just make another Mega Collection and you could get every Sonic game on your Gamecube. Back when I was 13 I sold my Genesis and add-ons for some N64 games. And it was the worst mistake ever made. I miss Knuckles Chaotix and Sonic CD so much. But with all these new great games coming out, and expenses of an 20 year old, I don't have the money to track them down and buy them all back. Besides, I love having a whole series available to me on one system.

Iori: Very true- it's much like, oh say, Konami working with Silicon Knights. We all know *that* will never happen.
Just because Sonic Team is a Sega first party doesn't mean Sega won't let them team up with Camelot to make a game. Sure it's unlikely, but definitely not ruled out. After all, developers are getting together to work on games more and more now, especially Japanese developers. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this happened.

Hey Mouse_Clicker correct me if I'm wrong, But Sonic Team is apart of Sega but aren't they also somewhat independent? I remember reading that somewhere. I think this was shortly after DC was killed, I can't remember it all. But Sonic Team is a development team that's apart of sega, but isn't entirely owned by them or something to that degree.

Sonic Team is owned by Sega. It just a name for one of their internal development teams. Like Nintendo has EAD, R&D1, and R&D2 as their internal development teams.

Hey guys lets not forget that Sega had to get Camelot on board just to make Shining Force 3 for Saturn. That being the case I'm hoping that the same would be true for this new game. Since Camelot practically a second party developer things look good for Cube. It would be like the MGS deal.....Sega could just let Camelot develop it and they woudl do the publishing. This is all conjecture but I hope at least some of it rings true.

actually ido remember sega purposely splitting their devlopment teams into seperate independent companies. Sega still owns these companies but they have a bit of freedom.

I agree with Grey Ninja. The new game will likely appear on GBA. Probably due to business decisions.

Mysitc: I'm sure Sonic Team is given a lot of indepandance at Sega since they're the team that draws in the most profit, but Sega does own 100% of Sonic Team, making them a 1st party.

How did you know Sonic Team draws in the most profits... I guess it's reasonable, given the success of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, but I think AM2 gets a lot of profits as well...they are the biggest and sort of the EAD of Sega, and they put out more games than Sonic Team, even if not this generation have sold as much as Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.
