Title: Mariner outfielder spills the beans on new baseball game. . .
Post by: IsaacDawg on May 08, 2003, 01:11:41 PM
According to like, four or six sources, Mariner outfielder "Ichiro" had this comment after the last Mariner game:  "We played good but you'll be able to play even better on my new ICHIRO BASEBALL GAME FOR THE NINTENDO GAMECUBE AND GAMEBOY ADVANCE FEATURING LINK UP AND ADVANCED BASEBALL PHYSICS"

An exclusive mlb game on the cube? That would call for a wow.

Yeah I wish that was true.  I remember the good ol' days of Ken Griffey Jr baseball just on the Super Nintendo.  Ichiro baseball on the cube would rock and it'd be a big hit in Japan.

Boy Ichiro sure is a shill.

By the way is "Ichiro" his last name or first name?

Anyway this has been rumoured/speculated for a long time.  Since Nintendo owns the Mariners it seems like a sure thing that eventually they would make an Ichiro baseball game.

Ichiro is his first name.  His last name is Suzuki but that is real common in Japan so he just goes by Ichrio.

You got it, Isaac- the Japanese love baseball almost as much as we do and Ichiro is huge over there. Let us not forget our old friend Yamauchi owns the Mariners.

So the league let him have his first name on his uniform?  That's pretty odd.

Ian: I don't know if his uniform actually says Ichiro- that's just what he commonly goes by, I guess.

His uniform does in fact say Ichiro.

Actually he is one of two players (correct me if I'm wrong) who have their first name on the back of their uniforms.  And back to the topic, ex-Nintendo president Yamauchi does own the Mariners...

Howard Lincoln is the GM, too.

my guess NST would be developing the title since Rare or Angel Studios don't make Nintendo games anymore.

Angel Studios?....I don't recall them having anything to do with Nintendo. The last game they made for GCN was Smuggler's Run Warzones, and now they are owned by Rockstar and just finished up Midnight Club 2. Before that they were making the Midtown Madness PC games for Microsoft.

I believe you are talking about Left Field...

As for this baseball game, I can see one of four Nintendo development houses making it - EAD, Retro Studios, NST, or the new Tokyo Studio.
EAD did make some sports games back in the day, and since baseball is so popular in Japan they could easily make one. They have more than enough people.
Retro Studios had plans for a wide assortment of sports games back in the day before Nintendo cancelled them all...It may be a secondary project.
NST looks like it's having enough trouble as it is with 1080, but they do have enough people to make two games, plus they are located at Nintendo of America which is right near the Mariners...
The new Tokyo studio could very well be making it to...
And of course this would be exclusive since it's gonna be published by Nintendo and the guy who owns more of Nintendo then anyone else also owns the team and the old bigwig of Nintendo of America happens to run the team with him

Actually he is one of two players (correct me if I'm wrong) who have their first name on the back of their uniforms There is a dude on the yankees who does that.

Angel Studios developed Ken Griffey Jr.'s Slugfest and Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey Jr for N64.
Rare made Ken Griffey Jr.'s Winning Run.

edit: check out Ichiro's GCN commercial from last Nov.

Not only is Ichiro "big in Japan," he also happens to be the most popular ballplayer in the lower 48 (here).

Oh my gosh!  You don't realize how happy this would make me if Nintendo were to actually "Ichiro's Base-Hit Baseball Featuring the MLB" exclusive for the 'Cube!!!!  God, I'd wet my pants...  Or atleast something of that nature.  Actually, it could use a much better name than that...  hmmm.... I dunno... let's see..

"MLB Pop Fly '03"
"MLB Tag, You're Out!! '03"
"MLB Force Out '03"

Geez....it's hard naming baseball games these days...  Somebody help, please!!!!

The guy on the Yankees is Hideki Matsui. I like his nickname, "Godzilla". Yao Ming also has his first name Yao on the back of his jersey. That's the way their names are written. Ichiro Suzuki here is Suzuki Ichiro over in Japan.
As for names of this game (if the info is correct) you got to use his name in the title. Well, I mean you don't have to. His mug would be on the front cover and all but it'd be kind of cool.
"Suzuki Ichiro presents MLB Triple Crown 2003"
Is the name Triple Crown already taken? I'm drawing a blank.

it was Angel Studios. Left Field didn't make any of Nintendo baseball games. They just did the Courtside series and Excitebike. check out there website at http://www.left.com

But those are gone...like I said the main candidates are EAD, the new Tokyo studio, Retro, or NST.
Most like the new studio or NST...

Although it does sound cool, "MLB Triple Crown 2003" sounds like a horse racing game.  Heh, maybe that's just me though...

Yeah, I was just trying to come up with something that has to do with Ichiro's game. I don't really care for baseball but I know he's a good contact hitter and he's fast.
Anyway, how about getting Barry Bonds to be the coverboy. I can see it now-
"Barry Bonds presents 'Roid Rage 2003"
or maybe -
"Barry Bonds presents MLB Juiced Up 2003"
That can apply to both the players and the balls.

Greenwood, you're mostly right but I have to correct you (It's my way).  Hideki Matsui plays for the Yankees but the Yankees don't put names on the back of their jerseys (really stupid).  And the thing about Yao Ming is that he's Chinese.  The Chinese put their last name first, than their first, then last name last (last, first, middle).  So in actuallity, his last name is actually on the back of his jersey.

Anyway, I always thought "Ichiro Suzuki Presents Line Drive Baseball 2003" sounded cool
