Title: Snail mail letter campaign for Last Story, Xenoblade and Pandora's Tower.
Post by: BlkPaladin on June 25, 2011, 09:29:40 AM
I guess someone at IGN is organizing a letter campaign to have people send a letter begging for the games to come out, included with an optional gift. I guess this has worked before for TV shows. Where the fans snail-mail spammed the CEO of the networks.

Hopefully this does work.  FYI, there is a facebook and twitter campaign going on where people are spamming nintendo's official pages.  Also, I just found out that a third approach is being done through amazon.  Amazon has xenoblade under its previous name, manodo (i think).  People have taking it upon themselves to preorder the game from amazon.  Its currently jumped to I believe the 650th most saught after item after being up in the thousands.

That's pretty funny about the Amazon listing. I think I'll pre-order it too since it requires no money up front.

Wow, it's now number 4.

I plan to write my own letter, and I've made a pre-order on Amazon as well.  It will be interesting to see if Nintendo acknowledges this in any way.

Nice...now it's number 3.

If a large number of Pre-Orders doesn't turn NoA's head I will definitely use that to back my opinion that NoA loves to ignore and defecate on their loyalists.

It's now NUMBER ONE on Amazon for all of video games. Amazon best sellers page (http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/videogames/ref=pd_ts_zgc_vg_video_games_display_on_website_mor1?pf_rd_p=1280315202&pf_rd_s=right-6&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=468642&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1FNFR79GTGE75SZW63K6)

I would have joined in but I'm in the wrong country. Congrats, all... now all we can do is hope Nintendo listens.

From people I talk to their phone lines were jammed yesterday so many people called about Xenoblade.  I can only hope the call center manager got mad and called Reggie.

They supposedly make a log every time they get a call like this; I'd love to see what the file looks like.

The call centre manager reports it to the director of Customer Service who would mention it at the next board meeting. Where it goes from there...

Not full enough.

A writing campaign to NoA then when that doesn't work an annoyance campaign to NCL directly.  Annoy the people who make the decisions.  If you could annoy the Board itself as long as it wasn't a lost they do it to stop being annoyed.

Hey everybody glad to see there's news of this going on here!  ;D

Just wanted to let you all know not to get discouraged and that there are many out there trying to get this localized.  A lot of ground is being made as 1-UP (http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=9082988), GoNintendo (http://www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=161756), gamrFeed (http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/86960/nintendo-bombarded-with-a-letter-campaign-for-missing-games/), Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5815447/how-badly-do-you-want-the-last-story-pandoras-tower-and-xenoblade-for-wii), and IGN (http://wii.ign.com/articles/117/1179120p1.html) have all been covering this.  I've been trying to make rounds and spread the word myself and highly recommend that any of you willing that may go to other forums and sites that may not have as many users or may be unaware of whats going on, to start threads there and get people informed.  The more who know of whats going on right now the better the chances we have at getting these games localized will be!

Is there any possibility of these titles being ported to WiiU in North America? An easy way to add 3 more titles at launch...

I'm here to encourage anyone here who wants to see these three phenomenal games released Stateside (and Canadaside for that matter) to please visit the Operation Rainfall website and follow the guidelines for this campaign.

So many "Internet Petitions" are started and forgotten about.  Every one is pessimistic, and nothing ever happens.  This is different.  This started as a snail mail campaign, and hundreds, or thousands, of hand-written paper letters can't be ignored so easily.  Plus, you have the opportunity to put your money where your mouth is.  If you want Xenoblade, preorder the game on Amazon!  The response to this effort has been particularly effective!  Lastly, don't forget to let Nintendo know via Facebook and Twitter that you want to see these games.  Tell them loudly and often!

http://oprainfall.blogspot.com/ (http://oprainfall.blogspot.com/)

We can't do it without the help of every individual.  Do you want the games or not?

Well Nintendojo recently had an interview with one of the members of Operation Rainfall. Here is a link to the interview.

  http://www.nintendojo.com/features/interviews/interview-operation-rainfall

Basically the long and short of the interview is that to not give up with all the feedback to Nintendo and if Operation Rainfall is successful then they will work on getting other games not released in the United States to come over as well. Think about things like Disaster:Day of Crisis and Fatal Frame 4 making out to the west as well as other titles making it to the states. Use that as a motivation moving forward.

Looks like it's dropped all the way down to number 218 on Amazon. I guess everyone is already giving up.

Or more specifically, since that ranking represents current numbers, the operation isn't doing enough to expand their numbers / get the word out and engage people.

Probably because they seem to be taking the "currently no plans" response as the final word.

Probably since most people know that where a game is ranked on Amazon doesn't mean **** to companies and have less influence even than a online petition.

Nintendo of America has been officially issued a trademark for The Last Story (http://wii.ign.com/objects/059/059789.html), one of the missing Wii games (http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/117/1179222p1.html?RSSwhen2011-06-29_180000&RSSid=1179222&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ignfeeds%2Fwii+(IGN+Wii)) that the company said it had no plans to bring to the US.

Nintendo filed for the trademark back in January 2010, but only received it this week. This doesn't mean that the company will release the game, but it could spark hope in those fans still holding out on the Mistwalker (http://games.ign.com/objects/728/728021.html) RPG.

What ever this means there is no way that is a bad thing.

Or Nintendo could just be trademark squatting (see: Break, Chrono).

That of course was Square Enix. It's not really trademark squatting, just making sure that no other company can take the name in case they do bring it here, since it does use that name in other territories. It's like how they sometimes register dozens of domain names for potential use.

I just got a letter from Nintendo in response to my letter it says

   Dear Matthew:
"Thanks for your recent letter. I can see why you want to see games like Xenoblade,The Last Story, or Pandora's Tower released here in the Americas, but at this time we have no new information to offer or announcements to make regarding these games. I realize this is disappointing, but your comments have been documented and made available for other departments here to use as they see fit. We appreciate hearing what our consumers find important."

Sincerely,
Nintendo Of America INC.

Well at least they are responding. Better than nothing I guess. Maybe I'll get a letter in the mail as well.

With the news of Nintendo dropping the price of the 3DS, what does this entail about the chances of Nintendo releasing the Operation Rainfall titles in north America? It appears to me that Nintendo's shareholders played a hand in the 3DS price being dropped due to record money loses, so those same shareholders might force Nintendo to release these titles in their biggest market in order to make up that money.

It could have the opposite effect actually, it may make them more adverse to risking releasing these titles because they may feel there is a chance they will not recoup localization, packaging and advertising costs. I find the whole situation interesting from a business side of things and want to see how Nintendo responds, they may forego any major risks for the time being until they are able to regroup and strategize, which may mean any hope of plans being changed for these games is all but gone.

I agree with Golden Phoenix; honestly, I think that they'll play things pretty conservatively until they have a few good fiscal quarters under their belt...and that could take a while.
