Title: Letter From The Director: E3'd

These will be weekly, I swear.

E3 2011 was a blur. It was so much of a blur, in fact, that it consumed way more than just the three days it actually took up. For the past two-and-a-half weeks, I've been embroiled in E3 insanity. I'm finally coming back down to earth. There were some other things outside of the site that got in the way, but that's not up for discussion up here. Now, let's talk what's going on with games right now, at least from Ye Olde Director's point of view. To make this simple, I'll make a list of the gaming-related things that have consumed me lately.

Good luck with that.  It is incredibly hard to hold the snark back, I hope you know.  ;)

Little Nemo is weird and awesome.  The train level is brutal, though, and put a stop to my long ago attempt to play through it.

Excitebike and Pokédex, you are lame.

Agree 100%. Excitebike would be cool if it had online leader-boards, and trading levels with friends. This is pathetic. The Wiiware game is so much worthwhile. Ok it's 3D that's cool but what else does it do? NOTHING- I'm glad it was free
Pokedex is totally pointless I played around for 5 minutes and quickly deleted it without a second thought. This is for the most extreme poke-fans and nobody else, free is nice but still this is has no point and feels thrown together at last second.

I noticed that we were using our Wii mainly for Netflix over the last month or so also, but decided to look over my backlog and remedy that. Funny how much happier I feel when actually gaming instead of just watching movies and TV shows.  So what am I playing recently?

A Boy and his Blob -- Beautiful game, and one that you can tell was made with love. The levels are a bit too easy (with sign posts holding your hand more often than not) but somehow that doesn't affect my enjoyment at all. Reminds me of LostWinds in that way: the experience might be short and simple, but was so polished and beautiful that you can overlook any shortcomings.

FlingSmash -- No kind words here. This is junk. Everything that is wrong with motion controls is evident in this game.

Animal Crossing -- My nephews have been playing recently so we traded codes to play online together. I've lost focus for my own town, accomplishing everything that I really cared about, but it's fun to help them out and play together occasionally. Still disappointing that you can't interact more with furniture, collect emulated video games, or even have relationship models that are slightly deeper. But the game still manages to be fun.

A Boy and his Blob still stands as one of my favorite Wii games. I love that game.

FlingSmash is a pile of crap. You hit the nail on the head.
