Title: Wii U Manufacturing Will Not Delay Launch
Post by: NWR_Karlie on June 15, 2011, 04:03:57 PM

Nintendo remain confident about their manufacture and launch estimates.

Nintendo's global president, Satoru Iwata, is confident that there will be no significant manufacturing issues that will affect their business, and they are confident in their estimates for the launch timeline.

He gave the example of a boom in smartphones affecting LCD production as something that was not a worry. LCD supply was said to have caused shortages during the early days of the Nintendo DS Lite. They were ready to show the Wii U at E3 this year as based on their estimates, it will be ready for launch in 2012.

On another note regarding manufacture, the strength of the yen has meant that Nintendo are shifting to paying for goods manufacturing costs in U.S. dollars to mitigate the impact. An appreciating yen means that the U.S. market becomes less profitable, and they are taking measures to make payments in U.S. dollars as much as possible to remain competitive in the largest market for games in the world.

Is "Global President" a new title?  Does anyone have further information about this?

So is October 2011 still being thrown around as a manufacturing start date?
or did it seem more like manufacturing would start in 2012?

Iwata was President and CEO previously. When the Nintendo Bios of everyone were put up for media during E3, that's when we first noticed the "Global President" title, though we can't be sure that's exactly when it changed.

Nintendo has many presidents, except in Australia. Iwata is the One Ring of Nintendo executives.

I hate how the term "competitive" actually means "expensive" in the gaming world.  :sigh:

It means he outranks Obama and every other president in the world.

Shifting costs to American dollars... maybe it should be called Wii USA?

I thought Nintendo always did all their bookkeeping in US dollars.  Or did that change in the last year?

Most of their cash is in US dollars, which is why they've been losing money.
