Title: Companies Care Not For Nintendo
Post by: NWR_Neal on June 06, 2011, 08:05:43 PM

EA and Ubisoft had their big blow-outs, and they never mentioned Nintendo.

Tomorrow, Nintendo's press conference should likely blow the roof off this site. Today, however, was filled with four other press conferences that never mentioned anything related to Nintendo. With Microsoft and Sony, I understand why they don't mention their competitor. With EA and Ubisoft, the lack of mention is both troubling and mildly upsetting.

It's no secret that third-party titles on Wii, DS, and 3DS face an uphill battle. After all, they're competing with Nintendo's games. Also, the general disinterest in releasing new Wii and DS games makes a little sense, as third parties struggled historically on both, and the systems are near the end of their lifespans. The cost of DS and 3DS cartridges are also another factor, as they're much higher than discs.

The lack of support for 3DS is the most troubling point. Like Wii, it seems like companies are pussy-footing around making games for a system that they don't think will succeed. Either that, or EA and Ubisoft see no point in showing off a system that doesn't show well. That could be the answer, but even still, the only serious peep we've heard about 3DS from the companies is EA's 3DS take on FIFA 12.

This E3 will likely be very exciting for every Nintendo fan. Tomorrow, games will likely be announced and confirmed by the truckload. Outside of that hour event and the large Nintendo booth, we might not see much more support for Nintendo's systems. Plain and simple, it's a bummer.

Note: I'm not including Café in this complaint since even if those companies are working on Café games, they wouldn't be announcing anything before Nintendo's reveal tomorrow.

I find the point about having to compete with Nintendo's games to be a bit laughable (not that you would make it, but that companies would say it). It's almost like they are complaining about having to make actual good games and can't just shovel on garbage and have it sell.

It because ALL the 3rd parties will be announced AT Nintendo's E3 conference tomorrow.

that's why everyone's show has for the most part sicked so far.
Tomorrow is everyones big reveal.

It's a little weird that they didn't mention anything on at least 3DS. 3DS should gain some momentum going into the 2nd half of the year with Ocarina of Time releasing later this month and there are strong titles coming out. Is it possible that Nintendo asked them not to mention anything at their own press conferences and join Nintendo on their stage tomorrow?

On one side, I hope that Nintendo told them to save it until Nintendo's press conference.

On the other hand, Ubisoft and EA make some of the worst games and I really don't care too much if they are on Nintendo's systems.

Blacknmild2k1 posted what I was about to say. I take it Nintendo convinced them to not announce anything as Nintendo will do that for them tomorrow.

Remember, Nintendo LOVES to hype new technology, and if third parties are announcing their efforts before Nintendo, a lot of that will be gone.

They did that last year when they showed the third party developers sing the praise of the 3DS, and no one mentioned anything about it before that.

The less Ubisoft shovelware we see on the Wii the better IMO. This was a blessing in disguise.

I really want that old school assassin's creed to come to something Nintendo. It looked sick. BnM said it first, it looked like Samurai Jack.

I wouldn't take the lack of 3DS mentions to mean anything unless we truly don't see any mention of Ubisoft or EA 3DS support at tomorrow's Nintendo Press Conference.  EA and Ubisoft are two of the most prolific developers in the industry.  Nintendo probably asked them to withhold their 3DS/Cafe software so they could be formally announced on-stage at the Nintendo Press Conference.

Yeah, what everyone else said. Nintendo likely wanted to keep that news for themselves, besides they have Project Cafe being announced tomorrow. No doubt 3rd parties are on board with that (at least I hope Nintendo secured some titles for the system to be shown at their conference). 3DS will be fine, DS struggled out of the gate too, took it several months to start getting a foothold. 3rd parties will no doubt support 3DS on a similar level as DS.

Whatever happened to their laser tag game?

Whatever happened to their laser tag game?

It came out last year.  Angry Joe of BlisteredThumbs.net reviewed it and rather enjoyed his time with it (especially once they sent him a replacement model since his original review copy was defective).

Whatever happened to their laser tag game?

I actually laid eyes on it in the display case at a Zellers store. It BLEW MY MIND. I couldn't believe that actually came out.

For those of you who aren't Canadian, Zellers is basically a K-Mart, although probably smaller.
