Title: Episode 93: Trouble With a Capital "T"
Post by: NWR_pap64 on May 21, 2011, 12:57:48 AM

Pedro picks games that surprised and others that underwhelmed.

Did you like the third and fourth games? Let your fellow listeners know in TalkBack! Think you've got a better choice? Then send it my way and your request might be on the next episode of Radio Trivia: Podcast Edition!  Heck, throw in a question and specific songs if you want.  Just remember, it has to be a game found on a Nintendo system in North America (unless we say otherwise)!

HOORAY IT IS FINALLY HERE! :3

But in all seriousness, deeply sorry if I sound a tad out of it. That week I've been busy with my thesis (which has been approved since then! :D) and then working early in the morning, so I didn't get enough rest, making my thoughts incoherent and I am sure my English got lost in the process.

But anyways, hope you guys liked it, I had a great time recording this!

The games were, for reference:

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Wii)
Mario Power Tennis (GCN/Wii)
Wii Party (Wii)
A Boy and His Blob: Trouble on Bloblonia (NES/Wii)
Tiny Toon Adventures 2: Trouble in Wackyland (NES)

I got 3/5 on this episode. Game 1 was a process of elimination, Game 2 (despite your comments about it having bland music) has a distinctive brassy sound in most of the songs that makes it stick out, and although I'd never played it, I figured out Game 4 because the first song is remixed in the 2nd world of the Wii reimagining.

And Pedro, there's no need to be self-concious. You did fine. In fact, if you hadn't said anything, I would have guessed you were on a sugar high during the episode - you sounded very excited, which is always a good thing.

Yeah, unfortunately, I have that nasty tendency of being too self aware and critical of myself. Glad to know you liked it! And funny enough, you are not the first one to say that I often sound like I am on a sugar high. Apparently, even when I am tired I still manage to be hyper :p

I was a huge fan of the show you discussed at the end and never realized who the two characters were based on until I heard it on here. I always assumed they were original creations. Wow. Do not feel bad about how long it took you to figure it out.

Well, don't feel too bad as the creators were indeed sneaky and creative with them. The other characters are blatantly obvious as to they were based on. But those two characters took a very different approach as to present their source of inspiration. And it is very clever.

Thanks for the shout out Pedro.

I'm digging the selection more recently on the show TYP cause I've actually been recognizing them for once.

I hope you do another all import show sometime soon.  Or maybe have a series of 1 import title per show just to grief the people that keep getting all 5 correct.

So game 1 is made by the remnants of Smilebit, who were the remnants of Team Andromeda who made my favorite game series ever Panzer Dragoon.  No offense to the game but how the mighty have fallen.

Alright, I'm going to say it Mario Tennis on the Virtual Boy is the Best Version and I stand by that.

You made the comparison between A Boy and His Blob and Atari 2600 games.

If you recall, A Boy and His Blob was designed by David Crane, which was the figurehead of Activision back in the early 80s and was the designer for games like Pitfall, Pitfall 2, and Kaboom!.  I don't recall noticing it when I was a kid playing this game, but replaying it on WiiVC, I noticed how "Pitfall"-like the game was.

Wow, I could not guess any of these games.  :( (But then again I've only really played 1 of them).

I LOVE the music from game 1 Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, I was not expecting that at all! Too bad it's a game I am not really interested in. But... I would buy the soundtrack, or maybe pick the game up for cheap. They need to make a Mario and Sonic platformer, definitely!

Game 2 I actually own. Those songs actually started getting a bit irritating as I was listening. I knew it sounded familiar, but I wasn't sure...

Game 3 has some interesting music, but it's a game I never played. Based on Pedro's description, I may want to check it out!

Game 4's music sounds kind of... bad. That is some really weird composition. Song 1 is actually funny to listen to. This music made my day. Wow, I did not think of NES Boy and his Blob at all! I only played it a long time ago, when I was very young, and I only probably played it once.

Game 5's music sounds really cool. I never played this game either, I just played the original NES Tiny Toons, which I agree with Pedro, is an awesome game.

Pedro, it's always great to hear you discuss the games!

Haha, what a great way to end at the very end of the podcast, good stuff.

I also got 3/5.
...and I've learned something knew about the characters.  Thanks!

Good Show!
