Title: Project Café Confirmed
Post by: MegaByte on April 24, 2011, 11:13:29 PM

Café images show up on official Nintendo development site.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/26140

Images featuring latte art with the labels "Cafe" and "Café Advance Support" have been added to WarioWorld.com, the website of Nintendo's Software Development Support Group.

Though not showing up on the front page of the site, the thumbnail image was added to the site on April 4, 2011, and the banner was uploaded ten days later, the same day that rumors of the Wii successor surfaced. WarioWorld.com is used by licensed Nintendo developers for game development support and ordering hardware, and the new images are analogous to ones for other Nintendo systems featured on the site.

While no hints are given as to the system's capabilities, the images seem to confirm that Nintendo next console is indeed code-named "Café."

I was just about to bump the rumor round up thread after I updated the Rumor consolidation list in the rumor thread.

Just so everyone know though, 01net is the one that first broke the Project Cafe name and they were also the site that leaked the NGP details about a month before Sony announced the system.

I've listed everything 01net has said in this post in the Rumor Thread
-Project Cafe Codename Confirmed (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=16688.msg668778#msg668778); 01net rumors now have even more credibility

It's real! :O

Also, what is that in the latte. Some sort of cute critter?

I think it's a bunny.

I think it would be awesome if the Cafe ended up being inspired by a cup of java.

Heh, Cafe... You know what I find funny about the name? Remember when the Wii was called the Revolution, and what people thought was going to be a core gamer system ended up being a casual magnet? Well, it would be hilarious if the very casual and friendly name Cafe was for a system that is aimed towards the core market.

XD

Just waiting on the "official" press release or statement now.  I guess they're just dragging it out as long as possible for the investor's meeting Iwata is doing this week.

Well they didn't put those images up for us to find them...I think.  Wait...

If we drink enough coffee, Skyward Sword may well release early.

How, exactly, does this "prove" that the next console is code-named Café?

Could Café be the name of a third pillar handheld?  A new Wii Peripheral?  A new arcade-based board (Think "Triforce")?  Some new online interface (Internet Café?)

Seems unlikely, but we're jumping to conclusions based on internet rumor here...

I'm going to have to agree with UncleBob. Until I see a reveal of Hardware and someone from Nintendo saying that the next console code name is Project Cafe then I really don't believe these rumors.

3DS just came out.
A new Wii Peripheral?
WarioWorld has never had a dedicated peripheral banner.
A new arcade-based board (Think "Triforce")?
WarioWorld hasn't handled Triforce development, and arcades are dead.
Some new online interface (Internet Café?)
I was worried about that, but the upload dates and release of rumors are too coincidental.

This new "controller" though, could be the "third pillar" that bridges the gap between Wii and 3DS.  Could be 100% for the Wii with no new system in sight.

And just because WarioWorld hasn't previously handled arcade hardware, doesn't mean three's no chance things could change.

I agree, it's likely there's something to these rumors - but this is still just an assumption at this point.

It's an assumption, but one with some fairly solid evidence to support it. There's so much talk from so many sources that it's hard to argue there isn't at least some truth to the rumor of Nintendo's new system, and now there's evidence from Nintendo's own site that they're working on something by the same name as the rumored console.

According to the rumor the controller is only a client and doesn't do most of the processing. It's just a screen that that receives pre-processed content for the most part. Potential to not only send the same game to 4 different controllers, but different media to different controllers while still using the TV or not using the TV at all. I sincerely doubt it has anything to do with the processing poor Wii.

I wonder if Nintendo will have two different controllers available, one with a screen and one without. It is quite hard to imagine the one with the screen going for much less then $80 or so, which is out of many people's price range who want more then one for multiplayer.

Is it wise for them to show off the controller a year before the thing is going to launch? We already know what the competition (Sony in particular) does when they see Nintendo's newest innovations. In any case, I hope they patent the hell out of the thing and if Sony copies even one crumb off it then Nintendo should sue their asses into oblivion.

I got a feeling Nintendo is doing this on purpose to combat the NGP doing something very similar with the PS3 Remote Play already.  Sony has already dipped its toe in that direction this gen.
