It seems it's being released in May 2011. The developer appears to be Ganbarion (One Piece Wii games, JUMP Super Stars). That game also has a nice God of War, Devil May Cry, Kid Icarus Uprising (had to add a Nintendo game to the mix) feel to it I think. One more to add to the list of "will it or won't it be released outside of Japan" list.
Personally I think the game looks fine. Want to see a better quality video but don't have any issues with how it looks.

Famitsu reveals the game's main character to be named "Ende," and the heroine "Ceres." Voice actor information is not provided.
As suggested by the trailer, the game is heavy on action. Its genre is action RPG. Your primary "weapon" is a chain, which you use to capture enemies and swing to grab items and trigger various gimmicks. The game makes use of a simple control scheme.
The story centers on a curse that's been placed on Ceres. The only way to clear that curse is with the flesh of beasts. Ende must gather beast flesh and take it back to Ceres.
Developed by Ganbarion (Jump Super Stars, One Piece Unlimited Cruise), Pandora's Tower is due for release on May 26, priced at ¥6,800. We'll likely get an official online look at the game later this week.
The setting of the game is the Graecia continent, where in the kingdom of Elysium the harvest festival has begun. Ceres has been chosen to sing at the event, but as she takes the podium, beasts appear in the area.
In the ensuing confusion, Ende manages to find Ceres, but she's unconscious. She's about to be taken into custody by the army as a witness to the beast appearance. With the help of a merchant named Graiai, the two manage to escape to an isolated tower.
Ceres ends up being cursed following the beast attack. Ende learns that to clear the curse he must gather the flesh of beasts that live within the tower. He decides to try his hand at the tower.
The three principle characters introduced in the magazine are:
Ceres 15 years old. She was selected from a large number of girls to sing at the harvest festival. She's a devout believer of the Eos religion. Ende The game's 22-year-old main character. He was a former soldier of Athens during a war with Elysium. He's a man of few words. Graiai The merchant who helps Ceres and Ende. He appears to be of the dwarf race. He gives you the Orichalcum Chain, which lets its possessor know Ceres' state.
The Orichalcum Chain that Graiai gives you is the central gameplay element in the game. As mentioned above, it allows you to know Ceres' state. As you play, you'll see a timer in the lower left of the screen. This timer is an indication of how far Ceres' curse has progressed. When it reaches zero, the game ends.
You'll also use the chain to restrain the servant beasts you encounter in the towers and tear their flesh off for delivery to Ceres, and also to clear the various gimmicks that you encounter in the tower.
The tower is actually not just one tower -- there are twelve, of varying size. Each tower has a different theme. For example, there's the Red Flame Tower, which blocks your progress with fire.
If you reach the deepest point in each tower, Ende will encounter a boss. The flesh of the bosses of all the towers is required to completely clear Ceres of her curse. The flesh of the servant beasts can only temporarily halt the curse's progress.

Just saw the trailer pop up on GameTrailers and liked what I saw. Nice to see that a thread is already up. The game seems to be a cool melee action/character action/beat'em up game. I wonder how heavily it will tilt in its "action-RPG" claim. The footage so far is little to go on so I guess there can be a lot of loot. Or maybe this will be the rare Japanese console game whose systems let you role play within the narrative. I'm eager to see more of this game. With a little less than two months until its Japanese release date, I'd imagine I won't have to wait long.

I'm really interested in this title. I hope it will have game-play like the God of War games, but with some very good Wii Remote/Nunchuk functionality.
I'm guessing this will be shown at E3, unless NOA thinks this is another Disaster: Day of Crisis, then we'll never see it... :(

Just woke up and checked my twitter and then raced back and and posting here so sorry if this was already been posted in a talkback thread but the release date for Pandora's Tower for Europe is April 13th.
http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/121/1218642p1.html
So based on this we have these games relatively early in the year for Europe so that gives a good chance for release for North America before the end of the year.

For those that are not aware this game is coming out in Europe on April 13th and it is currently the 5th best selling pre order on Amazon.co.uk and number 1 in preorders in Wii preorders in general.
So, where can a US gamer preorder Pandora's Tower (PAL version), since GAME is pretty much dead in the water?
I'd like to pick this up in April...as I have a feeling Nintendo absolutely won't bring this one over to the states.
If the sales for the European version are good enough then I could see this game being released in North America in either august or september of this year. However, Nintendo will not touch it wheter it sells well or not, so I assume that XSeed could pick it up if Last Story sells well. Overall, I really see XSeed passing on the game and Atlus picking publishing rights in North America because they handle very niche titles and Pandora's Tower seems like something they would publish from their arsenal of titles.

I'm pretty interested in this game. I feel like this is what a 3D Castlevania game should be like. It almost seems to be kind of like Metroid: Other M, but with more of a shadow of the colossus type vibe. The only thing that worries me is if the fighting is too much hack and slash. As long as they keep the enemy encounters down that shouldn't be a problem. The bosses that I've seen look pretty good.

That "Game Over" scene is killer. How strict is the timer? Do you just need kill the target monster within the time limit or do you need to make time for the trip back? From that long demo of the first hour or so of the game, it looks to be the latter.

Game still looks fun. Still holding out hope that some other publisher will pick this up from Nintendo for a North America release. With Xseed releasing The Last Story don't think that's to big of a leap. Though if not once I have my Wii U I'll be willing in the end to alter the system to import the game unless Nintendo puts up the European version for download on the Wii U's online store.
There will be no reason at all to not put up a digital version when the new system is out I feel, especially with it already localized.

I am calling around to my local Gamestop's currently but I thought I would post this real quick.
On the phone with Gamestop right now. Going to call all of them and complile the ones that are taking preorders as opposed to the ones that are not. That are close by to confirm the valiatity of this. Hmm called ones that were within a 10 mile radius of me and hmm for now my results I am going with inconclusive. Out of the 11 that I called all of them said that it wasn't in their computer. I am on the west coast and Sage is way over on the East coast so I don't know if that matters and I think most of the people I talked with weren't the higher ups. So maybe they don't know.
On the other side of the coin there was one guy that I talked to and I think he mentioned something about Nintendo Power. I gotta go digging around for more info about that aspect but I think it is a plus.
Oh also the majority of the people I talked to didn't know what the game was about. That is kinda sad when you think about. I guess when they get home they will be going home and looking the game up.
Small update.
UPDATE: I'll be stopping by the GameStop in question on Monday to try and get some further confirmation. ... I wonder if my wife's digital audio recorder would work through my coat pocket.
We don't really report news here on NinTemple so if a story comes to us, dad gum it, I'm going to see that story through!!

Well 2 days after it was put up that bundle up above is no long available.
Oh also I should mention that OPRainfall will be starting their Pandora's tower Month on Friday the 13th. That is also the day that is comes out in Europe. Also it seems that Australia is getting it one day before Europe.
I am on the west coast and Sage is way over on the East coast so I don't know if that matters
GoNintendo called one on the East Coast, and it wasn't in their computer either.
Hmm I don't know maybe they weren't suppose to let it slip yet and when gonintendo called they got the nonconfirmation. Because Sage talked to the Manager of one of the stores face to face and not over the phone. Also it could be that gonintendo didn't talk to the higher ups.

Well it is out in Austrelia and from what I am hearing from most of them they are going to wait to import it from Europe. In any case. Here is the first hour of the EU game. I haven't sat through the video yet. Oh it is also done by the same person that did the video of the Japanese version earlier in the topic. So there you can compare if there is any changes between the two versions.

Yes it is that time again. If you are unsure of Nintemple and you want the game or even if you are sure of Nintemple and want these games then Operation Rainfall will be kicking off tomorrow with Pandora's Tower Month. Yes Friday the 13th the so called unluckiest day of the year. I say that it isn't going to be unlucky considering that operation rainfall helped get the first 2 here I think the day is going to be a blessing to be quite honest.
Okay here is the details. They will be doing the typical ask NOA to release the game but they are trying something a bit different then the first two games according to their Facebook page.
Main things to look out for are the Story and characters section of the site. Lots of nice tidbits about both areas of the site.

That's a fairly interesting idea to get it here. I do hope that Nintendo is open to other publishers here, and not just XSeed, so this has more of a chance of succeeding. Of course ideally I'd rather just have that Nintendo logo on the bottom right on the box showing it's published by Nintendo. Will The Last Story still have that, along with XSeed's logo? Or will it supercede the Nintendo logo? As a huge first party game collector, I actually care about this, haha.

Most likely not. In the past when Nintendo let another publisher publish one of their games (like Cubivore), it did not include their logo. So the North American version will most likely only have the Xseed Games logo.

Here are my impressions of the game as promised earlier. Caveat: I've just played a couple of hours (6-7 hours), so this is a based on the first part of the game (I have currently cleared 4 towers / stages).
When the game starts, A couple of short cutscenes are shown in which the premises for the story are set. (take a look at the video in Maxim's post (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=34000.msg727437#msg727437) if you want the details). These cutscenes have some big omissions in what has happened up until the, but these gaps are filled throughout the game with flashbacks. These flashbacks slowly reveal what has happened upon the day of the harvest festival, how Aeron and Elena met. The story so far is that Elena is cursed on the day of the harvest ceremony. Chaos breaks loose (i currently do not know the exact reason, I hope this is told during one of the flash backs) and Aeron and Elena have to flee the town while being chased by the army. Elena's curse slowly changes her to a beast, but according to Mavda (I have a hard time trusting her) a cure can be found at a remote area of the continent, i.e. at the thirteen towers that are suspended above a deep valley. Your task is the ascend each of the thirteen towers and bring back the necessary ingredients to lift the curse.
You start the game at the observatory near the towers. As mentioned before, You'll need to ascend each of the thirteen towers in a hack 'n slash fashion while battling through a pack of monsters and beating bosses to get the necessary ingredients for lifting the curse. The curse also has a central role during your play time in the towers, as the curse slowly consumes Elena thus providing a time limit in which you have to clear the tower. This time limit can be extended by providing Elena flesh from defeated monsters. This means that you're not only trying to quickly climb the tower, but also looking for shortcuts to descend to the exit when time is running out. For me it means that i have to at least ascend the tower twice to complete it, because I fear that I'll run out of time when facing the boss. The combat is based around melee attacks combined with a long range grappling hook/chain. The chain can be used in different ways during the combat, e.g. you can bind enemies (limit their mobility or stop their attack), swing them around (only the smaller ones), rip off armor,... . The chain is also used as a grappling hook to tear out items, money or flesh of a defeated foe. You'll have to be carefull when fighting enemies, because if you take to much hits, items or equipment can break (which make them almost useless). Although repair is available in the observatory, it'll cost you some money (hint: it's not cheap). Aside of the combat the dungeons also features puzzles which must be solved to progress through the towers or to get to new items. The chain plays a central role in these puzzles as it's used to move boxes, active switches or just to get you to a different floor. It can also be used to grab some items or money in hard to reach areas of the room. At the top of the tower a boss awaits you (strangely, the guardian does not attack unless you attack. I hope this is explained further in the story). To defeat the boss you'll need to attack the glowing orb. This fight mostly uses the chain to bind and to weaken the boss. When you've depleted its life, you can yank the orb (master flesh) out of its body. After defeating the boss, you'll return to the observatory to offer the master flesh to Elena. When she consumes this meat, the curse is weakened a bit and you'll be set off to the next tower to repeat the cycle of ascending the tower, solving puzzles and defeating bosses.
Aside of the hack 'n slash combat mechanic, the game also provides some RPG elements. Experience is gained from defeating monsters, allowing you to level up and gain more health, strength,... . Items found in the tower can be used as starting materials to create usefull items, link potions, armor, amulets, ... or to upgrade your weapons. You can always visit previously cleared towers to get some more materials. Killing monsters can earn you money, but Mavda pays you also for manuscripts found in the towers or excessive flesh. This money can be used to buy items or gifts. An aspect of the game is to give Elena gifts to strengthen your bond between her and you (I haven't noticed any effect yet). An added bonus of these gifts is that Elena can use some of them to upgrade your pouch (allowing you to carry more items) or the decorate the observatory.
The game uses the strengths of the Wiimote + nunchuck to provide a good controller scheme (classic controller is supported, but I haven't used it). Movement is mapped to the analog stick, most of the actions (attack, defend, dodge, open inventory,...) are mapped to buttons and the pointer is used to aim the chain. The only motion controls that I've encountered are to rip out items/flesh with the chain by flicking the remote upwards and swinging chained monsters around, by wagling the nunchuck.
In conclusion: This game is geared towards people who like action games with some RPG elements incorporated. If you're a pure RPG player, this game is probably not for you. Also this game is packaged in a black box for a reason, do not let you fool by the 12+ rating (IMHO 15+ , were the guys at PEGI sleeping?) it has some disturbing (although more implied) content.

From what I have seen of videos and Lets plays that sums up the game well.

Giving Elena items actually improves her love towards you and that can improve the endings in the game.

Giving Elena items actually improves her love towards you and that can improve the endings in the game.
Thanks for the tip, I'll keep it in mind.
I've just finished the fifth tower, although I had some troubles with unlocking the Guardian's gate. I didn't notice a ledge which I could grapple. This caused me to run around looking high and low for the anchor point of the last chain. Only after looking carefully at the map, I found a suspicious (vertical) area. Only after carefully examining this area I found a reachable ledge leading me to the last anchor point. Because the aimless wandering I had to do a few return trips to the observatory to offer Elena some meat to buy me some more time. This place was also an ideal harvesting ground for base materials. It allowed me to upgrade my scythe a couple of times to level 2. This allows me to do some more combo attacks (after charging your weapon). The boss itself was not that hard thanks to the notes that are scattered in the tower. If you see a red flashing trinket on the ground, pick it up, because it contains some vital information on the tower or the guardian. Those notes also contain bits of information about the world and history of the last decades. The cellar in the observatory is also an ideal place to find some usefull notes. If you find unreadable notes, you can give them to Elena for translation. Most of these notes contain (alternate) recipes for items (potions,...). Mavda also buys these notes, thus providing the much needed funds for buying additional goods, gifts,... .
I'll keep on posting further impressions while I slowly advance through the game.

I was a little bit disappointed when a hit the second part of the game. This was caused by the design of the fifth to the tenth tower. Each of these towers was an advanced version of one of the first five towers, with a changed layout, new / changed puzzles and new bosses. This was redeemed in the last part of the game, as the 11th and 12th tower feature a whole new mechanic, which reminds me of the dark world / light world in Metroid Prime:Echoes. The endgame / ending is affected by your affinity with Elena. Because I had already raised Elena's affection by talking a lot with her and giving her presents, the game presented me with the best ending, which was satisfactionary.
Some additional remarks
Enemy spawns, Enemy behavior and item drops can alter based on the time. Some items can only be found at a specific moment during the day (talk to Mavda, she will reveal when those items can be found)
You can change your play style based on the equipped weapon. I preferred an upgraded scythe, which allowed me to unleash a deadly combo and allowing me to hit enemies 360° around me.
The chain can be used to reduce enemy mobility/attack/defense based on which part is bound. The more tension is raised before binding the enemy, the longer the binding will last.
The fixed camera perspective makes some battles more difficult. It's frustrating to be hit by an offscreen enemy.
It's a pity that the LE does not contain a sound track, because this game has excellent ambient music.
There is some replayability in the game, depending on:
The ending you've got. If you're not satisfied with the ending, you can try to raise Elena's affection to get a better ending
If you have OCD. At this point you should have noticed the locked red doors in the towers. The key can be purchased from Mavda if you start a new game . Rare items and additional manuscripts can be found in the new areas. The final weapon, which will give almost tank like offence, is also locked behind one of these doors.
If you want to max out your character (level 50) or max out your weapons. This allows you to defeat the first couple of bosses with one pull of a fully charged chain.
Final verdict: Pandora's Tower is a solid game (about 20 hours) for those who like hack 'n slash games combined with light RPG elements and an interesting story. This is maybe the least know game of operation rainfall, but I hope that gamers in America will also get a change to play this game

Thanks for the impressions Quadran. I believe it or not am looking forward to this the most. So it was nice to hear your thoughts on it.
Here is some weapon footage. It shows off the types of weapons well. The fun thing about the game is that the combat is that things can be mixed together.

It lives.(Maybe?)
via XSEED Facebook/Twitter (https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/917_10151239933073354_1788978970_n.png)
If (big if) it is indeed...will it be Wii retail or Wii U eShop?

This late in the game my money is on an eShop release, but they might do a very limited retail release and also have the game available on the eShop as well. Either way it is a good deal that we could be finally getting this game.

Bless those crazy people at XSEED. I will reward them with money once pre-orders go up.

This is the one of the three that interested me the least, but it's still good that it's coming. I'll probably pick it up at some point, but likely not at full price.

At least for now, GameStop is listing it for $39.99 (http://www.gamestop.com/wii/games/pandoras-tower/107683)

XSEED has narrowed the release date from Spring to April. Still no specific release date.
First US trailer.

They could probably double their sales if they put a downloadable version in the Wii U eshop.

Have we actually seen full retail Wii games on the Wii U eshop yet?

Not yet. There should be.
I'm a bit sad that the release date moved from the end of March to the middle of April. However, I've waited this long so a few more weeks is little bother.

The date was actually never March, that was a placeholder date made up by retailers. They've switched it to April now that XSEED confirmed it's coming in April, but they did not announce a specific date, so any date you see still may not be accurate.

Oh, darn. Ah, I should have figured that. I wish retailers would do away with such placeholder dates, but I guess that's bad business or incompatible with their systems.
I hope we get a solid date soon.

April 16 is the release date. $40 is the price.

Hurray! A date and a price. A fair price, I think. $50 would be pushing it in these days.

I figured $40 was the price since that is what Amazon had it for.

I got shipping confirmation today from Amazon. Not sure when I'll actually get around to playing it, but I feel like the final chapter for the Wii is closing.

I'm also glad the Wii U is doing the "one button" Wii mode boot option on startup. Playing this game should be a blast.

Operation Rainfall complete! So happy to get my copy of the game. (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BKHApUuCUAAtI1a.jpg)
I've played a little over an hour of it so far - defeated the first master in the Treetop Tower - and I'm quite enjoying the game. The mix of Zelda-esque action, platforming, and puzzles with the crafting, inventory, equipment, and pieces of lore that are common to RPGs is fun and interesting. While Mavda is always great to listen to, the voices for Elena and Aeron have yet to grow on me. Eager to see what the next towers will bring.

Pandora's Tower is the next game for Retroactive. Nice! Ah, it's been more than two months and I haven't finished the game. I'm only five towers in with nine hours and eight minutes on the clock. Time to get to it!

I did a pretty hardcore playthrough of this game and finished in about 23 hours. While I had some issues with the eleventh and twelfth dungeon glitches, I really enjoyed the title, and I honestly hope that its gameplay returns on Wii U in some way. It was a lot of fun and had such a great moodiness to it, and the mechanics were very sound.

The penultimate tower glitches put me off the game completely. Unforgivable. :@
