Pokémon smashes Nintendo's Australian sales record.

Today, Nintendo Australia announced that Pokémon Black and White set a new sales record for the company. Combined, the games have sold through 77,000 units within one week.

Pokémon Heart Gold & Soul Silver sold through 45,000 units in their first week, with New Super Mario Bros. Wii holding the previous record of 47,400 sold through.

Pokémon Black and White are now the best-selling week one game releases across all systems in Nintendo Australia’s history.

The Pokémon series has sold more than 3 million units to date in Australia.

Although it may be too late, last night whilst trying to sleep, I was seriously considering whether or not it'd be too late to cancel my preorder and just import a 3DS from the US. Our market is so small, yet our ratings board charges a freakin' mint to rate the releases. A lot of publishers just don't bother on DSiWare, with press releases having a big-arse 'Europe Only!!!' plastered on the majority. Pointless delays, expensive exerything... It makes me cry from my anus. Our minimum wage is almost double that of the US, so cost of living and all of that, but thanks to internets, we're no longer in the dark about when and how we get shafted, making the whole segmented market deal seem even more outdated and stupid than it's ever been. Ten years ago, our dollar was worth half of what it is today, yet prices have stayed exactly the same. If only more people weren't oblivious to the importing scene, things might change.


The region-free PS3 shelves in stores here are flooded with great deals, thanks to a more savvy consumer and a general decency of allowing consumers the option of importing if publishers feel the gamble to release something in our small market isn't worth the risk. It's not all doom and gloom though! Nintendo have decided to be generous, deciding to leave 3DS software prices as the same they are for regular DS games. Only $70US! I feel for the New Zealander fans though, as I think they're getting slapped with a $100 price tag. The age of internets, people.

Crappy iPhone games still waltz their way into our marketplace bypassing our ratings board alltogether, so why can't crappy DSiWare games? I want my five other notepads, damnit.

'Grats to the Pokemans, but it's chump change in the grand scheme of things. A big punch in the balls to Nintendo for region locking the 3DS and pushing us off a cliff even before the launch by not releasing Pilot Wings for a month. "Jeez...have a cry about it, Scatt. <_<" I freakin' am!! >_<

I feel your pain, and it's exactly why I'm importing my own 3DS. It shipped out some time during last night, and with priority courier should be here roughly the same time as our launch date.

Ah pooey, I take it the US community don't recieve these articles, yeah? Ignorant bastards!!  ;D I feel somewhat star struck talkin' to the Australian correspondents. Needs more filler from funny NWR members. I'm nervous!

I did it! I cancelled my order with the Dick Smiths (heh...'dick') and just ordered the console, Street Fighters, Steel Drivings and Pilotees from the Amazons. Nice ladies, I must say! 2 - 5 day express shipping is surprisingly cheap, too. I'll cry if our dollar drops to $0.22. It feels good, bro, to finally be rid of those gnawing, opressing shackles that is Nintendo of Australia. LET'S HUG!!

What do I do about the power supply?!!!1shift+1  :confused;   (edit) My XL charger should work, YEAH!!

In creepier news, the phone representative from the Dicks lives in the same small, piss-poor out-of-the-way suburb that I do. Woah!!

It's too bad, 24 hours sooner and you would have gotten a $25 discount on one of those games (see my deal article from the other day).
But yeah - that's where I ordered mine too, the courier tracking says that some kind of "external factor" delay has it stuck in Delaware overnight. I hope that doesn't mean some guy hijacked the truck and is now playing my 3DS!

Yep, I hate stealing the comments section, going off-topic just for little unimportant things 'n stuff, but I think I recall seeing a $25 coupon thing somewhere in my checkout page. It mentioned that it's only redeemable 48 hours after the 3DS has shipped though, but it's no biggy.

Most unfortunate about your delay, buddy. It's probably Nintendo of Australia's ghost spirit haunting you with even more annoying delays. G'luck mate!
